Y6 HET Gallery

This week was very exciting for some of our Y6 children. As part of our Trust-wide Y6 project this year, children from all 11 schools submitted artwork to be displayed in one of the gallery spaces in Princess Quay. The work can be seen Mon-Sat (9:30am-5:30pm) and Sunday (10am-4:30pm) all this week!

Today, the 16 children chosen to have their work displayed took a trip to the gallery to see their work professionally displayed. All of the work produced by other schools is fantastic as well – well done Y6

Woodland Project Part 2: First Planting

To was a very exciting and historic day for Christopher Pickering as we finally began to plant our woodland. The day started with some of our amazing parents coming down to help. They got to pant some trees with their children which was wonderful and very kindly stayed to help others. Then, throughout the day, children from Y6-Y1 all planted a tree in our woodland areas. Also planted was our orchard near the 5/6 MUGA and a new plantation of oak trees along the back of the field.

Many thanks to staff, parents and children for a lovely day. Special thanks to our Y6 helpers who worked with our Y1 children to help them plant their trees. A thank you Andy and Sarah for your guidance, expertise and patience in helping us with this project!

This is as far as we can progress this year but we will keep you updated over the coming months (and decades!)

Today our house captains attended an educational event organised by the charity Show Racism the Red card. The charity promotes the tacking of racism in society by engaging children with high profile sports like football.

This event was provided by Tigers Trust and supported by Hull City. Throughout the day, our Captains attended a number of workshops learning about racism and hate crimes. They also had a tour of the stadium and met City legend Dean Windass.

This was an excellent event and we hope that our House Captains can promote what they have learnt with the children of out school.

Tigers Trust Seven a side Girl’s Football

This evening our girls football season got underway with the Tigers Trust girl’s seven a side competition.

This was the first time these girls had ever played with each other and they were excited to get on the pitch and give it a go! As this was the first outing for the team, our target was to improve a little each game.

Their first game was a narrow defeat to Neasden after a late towards the end of the game. Not a great start, but the girls remained positive and had several shots on target throughout the game.

Going into the second game against Spring Cottage A, the girl’s target was to score a goal, regardless of the finishing result. This second game saw some huge improvements and the girl’s not only got their goal but won the game 1-0 (thanks to some excellent defensive work from captain Emily L).

Going into the third game (Woodlands), the girls were really growing in confidence and played amazingly well. As well as organising in defence, Emily L attacked well, running the ball out of her own half a number of times and setting up Talitha D for several goals. The game eventually finished 5-0 to Christopher Pickering with Talitha scoring all 5 goals.

Going into their final game again Spring Cottage B, our girls were working brilliantly together and enjoying their football. The game finished 2-0 with a super goal coming from debutant Melody T. There was also some excellent midfield play from Leyla H. A special mention to keeper Tamzin who managed to concede only 1 goal all night!

These girls had a fantastic time and eventually finished second! Well done to all of the girls who attended and congratulations to Neasden for your well deserved win!

Thanks to Tigers Trust for organising and a huge well done girls!

Woodland Project Part 1: Pre-planting

This morning saw the start of a new and exciting project to that children will work on over the next few years and hopefully decades: planting a forrest on our school field.

Working with the Woodland Trust and EYMS, we hope to plant a forest of 420 trees on our school field to create a forest school and, in the long term, alleviate flooding on the school field.

This project is a huge undertaking and something that will take years to accomplish. However, things got started today when Andy and Sarah came in to deliver some pre-planting sessions with our Y6 children. The children undertook some geography field work recording the different species of trees on the school grounds, their size and approximate age. They also learnt about seed dispersal and seasonal changes.

Miniature Moonscapes

This afternoon Y56 have been creating miniature moonscapes as part of their space topic. After studying photographs and videos of the moons surface, children used clay to create their textured surfaces in a Petri dish. Whilst the clay dried of a little, children carefully made miniature American flags which where added once the children had carefully painted their moons.

The overall effect is brilliant, resulting in some excellent art work.

HAS Cross Country Championships!

As usual, our first half term finished with another fantastic cross country even courtesy of Hull Active Schools. This year sixty children got to represent their school in the boys and girls races after finishing high in the intra-house event with the top six boys and girls running in the A race.

On the day there were some fantastic results with Ella P finishing second in the girls Y56 B race and Brooklyn B repeating this in the Boys B race. In the Girls A race, Tamzin L and Aimee W finished in the top ten meaning they automatically qualify for the county finals.

The rest of the results will be compiled by the organisers over half term!

Well done children – you did the school proud once again!

Rugby League Grand Finals

Tonight our boys rugby team attended the Hull Active Schools tag rugby Grand Final. Five other team across the city were there to battle it out in a series of tough games. The competitions started well for the boys with a win over St. Richards. However, a defeat to Spring Cottage saw the boys places in a 3rd/4th play off game with Eastfield which the boys unfortunately lost.

This was still a fantastic effort from our children who can count themselves amongst the top five teams in the City! Well done to the overall winners, Ing Primary, who beat Spring Cottage in a thrilling final.

Fencing Taster Day!

To continue widening our children’s experience of sport, today Y45&6 had a good at fencing with a coach from FITfence.

The day started with an assembly to introduce the sport, some rules and equipment. Then, throughout the day, all six classes had a full session getting to grips with this exciting and incredibly fun sport!

HAS Boccia Championships

This afternoon saw the start of our inclusive sports season with the HAS Boccia Championships. Six children from Y56 represented the school in this fantastic Paralympic sport which requires high levels of skill, nerves of steel and tactical planning.

Our children did a fantastic job representing the school and one team even finished second!
