Attendance

Research has shown that regular attendance at school plays a vital role in raising educational attainment and tackling under achievement. It dramatically improves both the life chances and welfare of children and young people. To enable all children to reach their full potential we encourage everyone to maintain excellent levels of attendance.  At Christopher Pickering we expect every child to come to school every day, on time, unless they are too ill to attend.

The senior leader with the responsibility for attendance is the Mrs L Leeman.

Our school provides a happy caring environment within which children feel safe and secure, which in turn enables the children to maximise their talents, feel their successes and so encourage and build high self-esteem. We want to work with our parents and carers to ensure our children really enjoy their learning.

What can parents/carers do to help?

  • Ensure that your child attends school every day and on time
  • If your child is not well enough to attend, please contact the school by 9:00 am on the first day of absence
  • Try to make dental and medical appointments outside of school time or at weekends
  • Take family holidays during the school holidays. We are unable to authorise term time holidays
  • Contact us immediately if you need help or support with your child’s attendance or punctuality

Please note that the school cannot and will not authorise absence for a family holiday. A Leave of Absence taken during term time without authorisation may lead to the issue of a penalty notice or prosecution by the local authority.

If you would like any help or advice about school attendance, please contact Ms Gunderson or Mrs Leeman via the school office.

If you require a leave of absence application form, please collect a copy from the main school office.
