Intra-House Cross Country: Sullivan win!

This afternoon was our fifth annual intra-house cross country competition. Two races were ran with children representing their school houses (Sullivan, Morley, Wilberforce and Johnson). Children we given a ticket upon finishing with the lowest aggregate scoring house being the winner.

After a quick warm up, the girls race was underway. Talented Wilberforce runner, Tamzin L, took and early lead and was dominating the field in first half. However, Sullivan’s Brook W closed the gap with two corners left and eventually finished first. Fantastics efforts from Aimee W and Hollie C saw them finish not long after.

The boys race was also hotly contested. Brinley T took and early lead but could only hold this to the second corner when Archie P, Alfie M, Vinnie H and Lucas F started the real race and battled hard throughout. Eventually Archie broke free and couldn’t be caught despite best efforts from Alfie M.

After adding up the combined finishing positions of the boys and girls for each house, Sullivan  house were the eventual winners – well done!

A huge well done to EVERY child who managed to finish this year’s course. The first 32 boy and girls to finish will now represent CPPS at the Hull Active Schools Inter School Cross Country Championships on 26th October.

Sullivan House – this year’s winners!

Girl’s Race: 1st: Brooke W, 2nd: Tamzin L & 3rd: Aimee W

Winner of the boy’s race: Archie P

Boys win seven-a-side qualifiers!

Our sporting success continued this week when our boys football team cruised through their qualifying event in the Humberside seven aside championships. With new players in defence and goal, the boys put on a fantastic display of football and dominated the midfield throughout. The boys conceded no goals and scored 15.

They will now play in the next round with the aim of representing Hull in the county finals.

Well done boys.

Peter Thorpe inspired art

To blast off their topic about space, Y56 have been creating paintings inspired by artist Peter Thorpe.

Using bright, solid colours and bold cartoon lines, the children overlaid a space craft over a semi-abstract background.

Well done children!

2018-19 Sporting Season Starts well with Rugby League!

This week our new school sporting season got underway with the Hull Active Schools tag Rugby League qualifiers.

Our boys attended the Sirius West qualifying event and had a fantastic time! They impressed on their first outing by reaching the final but unfortunately lost to a talented Eastfield team. However, the boys still progress to the Grand Final in November.

Good luck in the next round boys!

(L-R): Djay P, Alfie P, Archie P, Louis C, Alex A, Jayden W, Rhys CW & Wiliam G.

Y6 take part in BBC active maths lesson

This afternoon, Y6 took part in a first of a series of live lessons streamed nationwide by BBC Super Movers. The lessons are designed to get children across the country moving more within lessons and learn in an exciting active way.

This afternoon’s lesson was broadcasted from Manchester City Football Club’s training ground with parts being demonstrated and taught by the players themselves. The theme of the lesson was maths and children learnt about different aspects of shape, space and measure.

This was a great activity and the children found it very engaging!

Children Blast into new topic with parents!

This week Y56 have embarked on their new topic: “Is there life on Mars?”

Our pupils will become experts on space and our solar system and consider the possibility of life on other planets – especially Mars.

This week we welcomed our parents in to meet the Y56 staff and get our topic underway with some trying their hand at building moon buggies with the children!

NSSW Continues….Hull FC Training Experience

Today some very lucky Y6s had a really treat – a behind the scenes look at how Hull FC operate at their Elite Performance Centre!

The aim of this trip was to further children’s experience of the demands of professional sport as they exit primary school and further their sporting interests. It was a thoroughly enjoyable morning and we would all like to give Richard Tate, Feka and the Hull FC Foundation a massive thank you! There are some photos below but more can be seen in our ebook here:

Our day began with a tour of the centre, starting with the common room where players relax.

Children had a good luck at the legacy board which names every player to ever play for the Black and Whites

Next we saw the kitchen and how players managed nutrition, training schedules and supplements – every player has a slightly different diet which is tailor made!

We then had a visit to the gym for circuit training

Next stop was the video review room where we were very lucky to have an exclusive Q&A session with Head Coach Lee Radford!

Then we went to the changing rooms were we found out players are find for not putting their boots away!

We also stopped by the physio room to learn about how players deal with injury and how to recover after training.

Before heading out onto the training field we went to the wrestling room where players practise their tackling technique (the girls were not happy with the smell!)

Before lunch we headed onto the training field with the community coaches

Finally it was time for lunch – which we ate in the presence of the Challenge Cup before heading back to school!
