Year 6 white ribbon day (Digital leaders post)

This week, our school has taken part in white ribbon day. White ribbon day is when we consider about woman’s rights and how we treat each other. For year 6, we have done some graffiti all about white ribbon day. All the children enjoyed this new topic and everyone took part in decorating two blank walls. The children made amazing graffiti! We then displayed it in the year 5 and 6 pod.

WHITE RIBBON DAY YEAR 6

As part of our White Ribbon Day Activity Year 6 Have created a graffiti wall of positivity. Each child wrote a thought on the wall, which challenge misconceptions. The children’s thoughts are clear; each one sending a positive message to all who read them.

If we immerse ourselves in diverse culture, we get opportunities to interact and mingle with people from different background and learn from one another. We can build trust, love, respect and understanding across cultures thereby wiping out all the negative stereotypes and personal biases about different groups.

Well done Year 6 , a great way to get the message across!!!

Year 6 Science

Lately, the year 6 classes have been looking at their new science topic: light. This week we learnt that light must travel in a straight line. We know in order to see objects, light must reflect off them and goes into our eyes to be focused by the lens and then the retina turns this information into brain signals which are sent to our brain through the optic nerve. We looked at a variety of light sources and how to categorise them.

Evolution

Year 6 really enjoyed looking at the different taxonomy of animals in todays lesson. They were also able to show characteristics of different classes of animals to show how they are grouped together due to the mass biodiversity that occurs on our planet.

Year 6 Digital Footprint

In year 6 we have been looking at the impact a digital footprint can have and how some things online are permanent. We have been digital footprint detectives and looked at peoples digital footprints who have been applying for a job within our fictional football academy. From this we have created rules about how to improve and stay safer online through thinking about our own digital footprint and what we are posting on the web.

Mayan clay work

Year six have really enjoyed developing their artistic skills through creating clay tiles for a Mayan mosaic. They worked really hard moulding the clay into ancient Mayan logograms.

Year 6 Science

Year 6 have really enjoyed learning how light enables them to see. They experimented on how distance affects your vision and realised the further away you went the blurrier things became (generally). They also created an entertainment show explaining how light travels and how it enables you to see. They really enjoyed performing these to each other in the class.

Year 6 coding

Year 6 have had a super time enhancing their coding through adding variables and functions to make their characters interact with each other. By using the repeat code they have been able to have repeated lines of code which can reset their characters.

Y6 Pandorian creatures

Year 6 have been busy this week planning their non chronological reports on a ‘Pandorian’ creature that they have created. They have been inspired through a short sci-fi video showing the alien planet Pandora. From this they’ve created their own beast that would reside there. There has been a lot of intriguing imagination poured into these beasts and we can’t wait to see the final outcomes!

Year 6 Trading Post

Year 6 had a super time this afternoon during their Mayan trading post. The children were able to trade like Mayans using beans instead of money. They explored the Mayan number system and found information on the temple Chechen Itza. Some children were able to plot the cities and their locations on a coordinates sheet whilst others were able to find out about the Mayan Gods. Lots of children enjoyed earning their ‘money’ through the amazing designs of ceramics which were filled with Mayan glyphs.
