We painted beautiful poppies outside today.

The poppies help us remember all the special people who have fought in wars to keep us and our country safe.

Year 6 had a super time this afternoon during their Mayan trading post. The children were able to trade like Mayans using beans instead of money. They explored the Mayan number system and found information on the temple Chechen Itza. Some children were able to plot the cities and their locations on a coordinates sheet whilst others were able to find out about the Mayan Gods. Lots of children enjoyed earning their ‘money’ through the amazing designs of ceramics which were filled with Mayan glyphs.

In F1 we talked about Guy Fawkes and why we celebrate Bonfire Night. We also tried some traditional bonfire night food. We made our own sparklers, where we dipped our chocolate fingers in warm water to melt the chocolate and then covered them in sprinkles. We talked about how the chocolate melted. We did some fabulous blow paint firework pictures, which are now on display in our classroom. We also made some tasty treats in our mud kitchen food stall. Click on the link below to see our photos.
We had a very busy day learning all about Guy Fawkes and the reason we celebrate ‘Bonfire Night’.
- we displayed excellent teamwork skills collecting sticks and leaves to make our bonfire
- used a range of painting techniques to create bonfire and firework art
- wrote some important safety instructions for staying safe on ‘Bonfire Night’
- enjoyed making and eating edible sparklers and hot dogs whilst listening to our themed story ‘Sparks in the Sky’
- finished off our day all snuggled up watching a spectacular firework display
Year 6 really enjoyed creating line drawings of Mayan glyphs in their sketch books. They examined a range of glyphs carefully and then replicated these with great detail. I was particularly impressed at how confident the children were in putting pen to paper without sketching them in pencil first! Excellent work year 6!
Year 4 had and excellent end to their half term today taking part in our Ancient Egyptian Wow day! The children all came dressed up in their finest Egyptian clothing for a fun day of learning about Ancient Egypt.
Children made replicas of Tutunkhamun’s death mask, Egyptian jewellery, learned about the process of mummification, virtually explored Tutunkhamun’s tomb and learned how to scale up ancient illustrations of Egyptian Gods! We had a fantastic time and we are very proud of how hard you have worked this year so far – keep it up!
(L-R) Alisha, Grace, Summer and Evie with their fantastic costumes!
Harrie and Issy creating their masks
Finished Tutunkhamun death masks
Mr Morgan and Mrs Hebden didn’t feel silly AT ALL!
A super effort from all Y4, well done!
Today we have been learning about history again and how to work historically. We have learnt lots about Antarctica already and know that it is really cold there and that there is ice in the sea! We also know that we have not always known it is there because it is so hard to reach!
We used sources of evidence to look at different boats and ships and had lots of discussions about why we thought they were old or new and if we thought they were able to get to Antarctica and why. We had lots of fantastic discussions then ordered the boats and ships in chronological order.
