Y4 PSHE JIGSAW – BEING ME IN MY WORLD

To start our Year 4 Autumn Term, the children have been utilising the Jigsaw approach to identify the skills and qualities required to work together as an effective TEAM in all areas of our learning this academic year.

Through class discussion, we shared our own opinions of the qualities we thought were vital for TEAMWORK …below are just a few of the qualities we identified:

RESPECT
INCLUSION
HONESTY
KINDNESS
APPROACHABILITY
VALUING OPINIONS
ABILITY TO LISTEN
TOLERANCE
RESPONSIBILITY
FAIRNESS
TAKING TURNS

As a class, we will endeavour to implement and build upon these qualities throughout our learning in Year 4 this year…TEAMWORK=DREAMWORK!

Recorders

Year 3 were thrilled to recieve their recorders this week and begin to talk about how we will be playing them. Over the year we will be learning to play the recorder. This week we begun with getting used to holding our new instrument and practising where to place our fingers.

We had a go at making sounds and discussed how we will make different notes with our finger placements. We had a go at making soft and loud sounds by blowing gently through the mouth piece. We are very excited to start to look at the different notes next week.

We also talked about how we look after instruments and how to handle them correctly.

Getting to know each other

Year 3 were very excited this week to meet Jigsaw Jino.

Jigsaw Jino helps the class to learn about lots of different things during our Jigsaw PSHE lessons.

This week Year 3 have looked at things they have achieved so far in their life and things they are proud of.

We talked about how we feel when we are proud of ourselves and some of the things we have done to be proud of. We are proud of achievements such as learning to write, ride our bikes, tie our shoe laces and count to a thousand. We are also proud of being good friends and being kind to each other.

We decide what we were most proud of and wrote them down on our gold coins to post in the proud box.

Mrs Hebden’s Class – Visit to Dalby Forest

What an amazing day we had on Tuesday 4th July! We went adventuring in Dalby Forest taking in so much nature, demonstrating awe and wonder from second we stepped in the minibus to the moment we arrived back at school. A wonderful day, here are some lovely images for you to enjoy!

Mrs Hebden’s class

During our social choosing time today, these boys decided to dig out an old classic and were taught how to play it. The boys developed their use of coordinates, logic and strategy to try and beat their opponent whilst playing Battleships today.

Mrs Hebden’s Class – Art

We loved the bold colours and lines used by the Scottish Artist Steven Brown and we think you may have seen some of his famous images before, like this one taken from his website.

Brandon drew some beautiful animal images and then used colour to give them a Steven Brown inspired feel. Great work Brandon!

Raphael enjoyed using bold colours to bring his wonderful elephant sketch to life. Well done Raph!

layering

This week in art we have started to create our own seascape based on the work of John Ward.

We have spent the last few weeks looking at how John Ward uses cold colours and we practised creating tints and tones with these colours.

We then spent time discussing how using different medias in our art can create  layer and texture. We practised this technique using oil pastels, paint and PVA glue. After seeing how these medias work together we were ready to create our own seascapes using these medias.

We have started our own artwork by using oil pastels. We have thought about the lines we need and the shading we can add. We have also thought about how we can use paint and PVA glue to create texture.

Our first layer is beginning to look like the start of some fantastic seascape pictures. We cannot wait to add our paint and PVA next week.

Year 6 Countryside Learning Day at Sledmere House

What a fantastic day we had in Year 6 at Sledmere house for our geography school trip! The sun was shining and it was a perfect setting to learn all about farming, food produce, plants, trees, and nature. A real highlight of the day was the ‘Deer Safari’ which allowed us to travel on a tractor wagon and get up close with hundreds of deer – some which were tiny babies and had only been born minutes before! We fed them and enjoyed watching them come up to the trailer to say hello.

We also saw a sheep being sheared, a first for many of our pupils – and learnt about how wool is such a versatile product that can be made into many various items and clothing.

All children also planted a broad bean in a hand-made plant pot to take home!

75th Anniversary of the H.M Empire Windrush arrival

During our migration topic this term, Year 6 have been learning about how different groups of people have migrated to Britain for various reasons. The United Kingdom is so diverse and inclusive, made up of millions of people from all different backgrounds and beliefs. This week, we have been learning about citizens from the Caribbean who were encouraged to migrate and come work in Britain to help rebuild our country after WW2.

We took part in an online Zoom session with Floella Benjamin who spoke about her experiences as a migrant to Britain travelling from Trinidad and how sadly, back then, she faced lots of racism. It was a great opportunity to learn about the challenges migrants faced and how Britain has come a long way in treating everyone with the respect they deserve.
