Y4 MUSIC: RECORDERS – DURATION

As Musicians in Y4M this week,  we have been exploring the concept of ‘Duration’ and identified the difference between notes which were short or long in the tunes that we have been practicing so far.  In order to play a note with a longer duration the children established a longer steady blow was required.  We then utilised our new knowledge and put it into practice as a class while playing a familiar tune using the notes B, A and G that we are beginning to master on the recorder.

Here is our short rendition of ‘Mary Had A Little Lamb’…

Masters in the making…Encore Y4!

Where is Hull?

This week in geography, Year 3 have been using atlases.

We have begun to identify countries in Europe with the use of an atlas. We could identify England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland independently. We then began to find France, Belgium and The Netherlands as these are the countries which are closest to Hull.

We can use our atlas and our knowledge of compass points to find European countries which are north, south, east or west in relation to where Hull is.

We enjoyed using the atlases and worked together to identify lots of European countries.

Year 3: Gymnastics: Symmetry and Asymmetry

In P.E so far this term, Year 3 have been Gymnasts performing a sequence of 3 moves with a partner which includes symmetrical and asymmetrical balances using different apparatus.  In order to perfect the flow of our sequences, we have practised and performed for our peers so that our audience could give constructive feedback. After taking our feedback on board, our sequences have been much improved and flow with ease and flair.

Great TEAMWORK Year 3!

Y4 Music: Recorders

So far this term, Y4M have been learning to play the notes B A and G on the recorder.  With  dexterity and finess, we are becoming more confident moving between notes when playing complex pieces of music and are able to recognise the difference in the pitch in each note played. We are also refining playing as a group so that our timings coincide with each other.

Here is one of the pieces we learnt today using the note G…

Bravo and encore Y4M!!!

Colour Mixing

Year 2’s art enquiry this week was – How do we make new colours?

We revisited our knowledge of primary colours in Year 1 and made secondary colours. We mixed different combinations of  red, yellow and blue to make orange, green and purple.

Then we mixed our secondary colours to make tertiary colours! There were lots of different shades across the room!

We were proud of our colour mixing skills!

One point perspective art work

Within our art lessons this half term, Y6 have been focusing on creating depth and accurate proportions through the use of one-point perspective drawing techniques. In this particular lesson, we practised drawing the Humber Bridge thinking about the ‘vanishing point’ and how to ensure everything led to the one-point perspective. Great work year 6!

Balanced Arguments

Our writing focus in English at the moment is ‘balanced arguments’ and Year 6 have been enjoying to opportunity to consider positives and negatives relating to a range of topics. We have also had the opportunity to take part in verbal debates and the children were fantastic at voicing their opinions and backing up their arguments with evidence and statistics to help justify their viewpoints.

North and South America locational knowledge

Year 6 have been studying the continents of North and South America and have been locating the countries, using atlases, which form these continents. We were amazed by the sheer size of these continents and how far reaching they are to the north and south of the globe! We then used digimap online to investigate levels of precipitation, average temperature, and population density of different regions within these continents.

Chronology

This week Year 3 have been discussing chronology and what this means.

We have discussed how chronology tells us the order things happened in.

During our history lesson we have begun to look at the history of Hull. We spent some time looking at some sources of evidence and discussing what these sources showed us. We then had a go at putting our sources into the correct chronological order.

We discussed how black and white photographs must be older than coloured ones and how paintings must be even older as these were created before cameras were invented.

Once we had created our chronological timeline we discussed the correct order of events in Hull.

We then created our own timeline in our books ensuring we thought about the chronological order of the events.

We cannot wait to find out lots of information about these events that shaped the city of Kingston Upon Hull.

we are actors

This week in Year 3 we have been learning the story of ‘Ocean meets Sky’.

We have used signifiers to be able to retell the story before we drew a story map.

Once we knew the story we were able to act the story out.

We decided in our groups who would play which character. There were lots of characters to be. The main character is called Finn an there is his grandfather and mother in the story along with a great golden fish and bookish birds.

As we acted we were able to retell the story to our peers and perform the story.
