Tri-Golf County Finals

Today was the Tri-Golf county finals. We had three teams present from Year 4, 5 and 6. Our children were not only representing CPPS, but the Hull in a series of golf challenges against schools from East Riding, Lincolnshire and North East Lincs. Taking place at Cottingham Park Golf Club, children worked their way through ten different challenge stations which tested their putting and chipping skills.

It was a hot, humid day and there were a few yawns coming from children (and staff!) after a scorching sports day the previous day. However, everyone had a fantastic time and we were thrilled when out Year 5 team won silver medals. This means they’re second in the Humber region! A huge well done to all involved.

Challenge stations tested children’s putting and chipping skills.

Story Mapping

In Year 5’s English lesson, this morning, we started our brand new unit ‘The Lighthouse’. Within our new unit, we began to piece the story together by creating our own Story Map. Our creations focused on the characters, plot, opening, build up, dilemma, resolution and ending. We had so much fun putting our knowledge into practice!

Year 6 Production

In Year 6, the children have been working very hard on their production, The Amazing Adventures Of Super-Stan. They love this piece and have been putting a lot of effort into acting out their lines, choreographing dances to the different songs and making sure they are being the best they can be. Some of the children have even been practising in their playtimes and lunchtimes to make sure they know most or maybe all of their lines off by heart and don’t need to worry about saying something wrong in rehearsals. They have been amazing with handling the needed props at the right time and loved helping to make them. Everyone who wanted a specific role auditioned for the role they wanted and was given a role they suited best which they were very happy about. The production will be a very funny, comical show which has many jokes in. The children can’t wait to show this to the parents and to the school.

Sincerely,

The DL Team ( Digital Leaders Team)

NSPCC – Speak Out, Stay Safe

Year 5 have been learning about different types of abuse and what we can do if we are victims of abuse. We learned that abuse is never the child’s fault, who we can talk to if we are a victim of abuse and how to contact Childline. We even learned the Childline number (0800 1111) off by heart.

The Jabberwocky

This week, Year 5 have started their English poetry unity on The Jabberwocky.

On Monday, we read the poem ‘The Jabberwocky’, which is a nonsense poem. We recapped poetic devices, such as rhyme, similes, metaphors, personification, imagery and alliteration. Then, we learned about a new poetic convention called portmanteau, which is were sounds from two words are blended together to form a new word. We identifies portmanteau words in The Jabberwocky poem and finally created our own portmanteau words.

On Wednesday, we reread the poem ‘The Jabberwocky’ which is a nonsense poem. In pairs, we then tried to decode the portmanteau and nonsense words so we could understand the storyline of the poem.

Prison Me? No way!

Year 5/6 have had an amazing day with the staff of Prison Me? No Way! The children had the experience of encountering a real life prison cell and how inmates spend their day in prison. We learnt a lot of brilliant information!

Mental Health Awareness Week

As part of Mental Health Week, Year 5 discussed loneliness and what we can do if we are ever feeling lonely. We came up with some fantastic ideas to combat loneliness.

Mental Health Awareness Week!

As it is Mental Health Awareness Week, Miss Mead’s class have been discussing how we can remain happy, healthy and comfortable in our daily lives. We came up with lots of ideas of what makes us feel safe!

In PSHCE this week, Y5MEA were discussing situations that could happen online and whether they are safe or unsafe. Each child had their own cards: safe, unsafe and I’m not sure. The children used these cards to show their thoughts and whether they believed that certain situations online could have positive/negative consequences. As a class, we shared our opinions and debated the positives and negatives about online communities.
