CHILDREN IN NEED 2025 DANCE-A-THON CHALLENGE

Year 6 certainly rose to this year’s Children in Need ‘DANCE-A-THON’ challenge and busted some great moves on the dancefloor this afternoon.  Everyone, including the staff, had a great time dancing to some fantastic tunes whilst raising funds for this super charitable event.

odd socks day

Year 3 have celebrated Odd Socks Day to mark the start of Anti‑Bullying Week by wearing odd socks. We have discussed what makes each of us unique – and reinforced the idea that differences are something to be celebrated, not bullied. We have helped to spread the message: everyone is welcome, everyone belongs, and kindness to each other matters

ANTIBULLYING WEEK 2025 – POWER FOR GOOD

This week, both Years 5 and 6 took part in the online BBC Antibullying lesson with the overarching theme being Power for Good.

We had various codes to crack and missions to undertake, whereupon the children explored how to identify when an altercation between parties may be considered as an act of bullying and how we should, and should not, deal with the situation.

We also explored and familiarised ourselves with some important terminology:

Target…the person or persons being bullied

Ringleader…the person causing physical and emotional harm to another

Bystander…an individual who witnesses bullying happening but does nothing to stop it

Upstander…an individual who stands up for the target and gets help

We unanimously agreed that being an UPSTANDER was by far the best in order to use our powers for good to stop or prevent an individual being harmed. In addition, we all agreed that kind hands, kind feet, kind words and being accepting and tolerant of others makes our world a much better place.

Year 5 Bikeability

Year 5 had a very busy week completing Levels 1 & 2 of Bikeability!

Every child that took part managed to achieve something personal to them, whether that be sitting on a bike for the first time, riding one-handed whilst signalling, or overtaking parked cars on the road in a safe manner.

The children showed excellent listening skills and resilience. There was a lot of information to take in and remember but the children were absolute superstars and showed the instructors what it means to “Be The Best You Can Be!”.

Well done Year 5!

Year 2 – PSHE

Year 2 have completed their first Jigsaw piece in PSHE –  “Being Me In My World”.

Our curricular goal was to be able to explain why our behaviour can impact on other people in the class.

Our Jigsaw lessons are a safe learning environment, and we have some ‘ground rules’, that are included in our ‘Jigsaw Charter’ which we read together at the start of each lesson.

These include:-

The right to pass

Respect for each other

Confidentiality

During this term we have:-

  • Identified some of our hopes and fears for this year.
  • Began to understand rights and responsibilities for being a member of our class and school.
  • Being able to listen to other people and contribute our own ideas about rewards and consequences.
  • Understanding how following the Learning Charter will help us all learn.
  • Recognising the choices we make and understand the consequences.

Each week the children have shown a growing understanding of how all these things impact on enabling us to feel happy, safe and able to learn.

They have all been confident to share their thoughts and feelings when we pass around Jigsaw Joe around the class for discussions.

During ‘calm me’ the children have enjoyed the time to calm their minds and bodies, some children have become amazing at this and are appreciative of this time.

cross the river

In PE, Year 3 have been playing “Cross the River” which is a cooperative game where teams use hoops to move everyone across a designated “river” (the MUGA) without touching the “water,” promoting problem-solving, teamwork, and gross motor skills by requiring players to strategically move hoops forward and only stand in these hoops, restarting if anyone falls in. We had to coordinate movements to pass hoops from back to front to keep the “raft” moving. We worked well as teams and quickly found how to communicate with each other.

House Captains Visit the Houses of Parliament

Yesterday, our House Captains made a visit to London for a tour of the Houses of Parliament. They had a fantastic trip and were great school ambassadors. The trip the Parliament was a great chance to see democracy in action and how the country was ran. Well done children!

We visited Trafalgar Square and saw Nelson’s column

Buckingham Palace – the King was home but sadly we didn’t see him!

Travelling on the underground was busy but fun.

Westminster Hall, mid-way through our fantastic tour.

A trip to McDonalds for tea was popular!

Back home at 10pm! A long day but very enjoyable.

Y5 Comparison of Autumnal Religious Festivals

In Year 5 this term, we are learning how people of faith express their religious beliefs through the festivals they celebrate, the ways in which they practice their faith within their communities and through the clothing that they wear.

Today we compared 3 Autumnal festivals in the way that they are celebrated and the messages that they each convey to their faith followers:

The Christian celebration of Harvest is a festival that teaches that we should help and share those who are vulnerable and less fortunate within our community and be thankful to God.

The Hindu celebration of Diwali is a time for faith followers to reflect and and of uniting with others in their community to celebrate light overcoming darkness.

The Jewish celebration of Rosh Hashana is time for Jewish faith followers to reflect on the year that has passed and to seek forgiveness.

Our comparisons found that each of theses magnificent festivals occur in the Autumn; that each faith believes in a God or Gods (Hindus worship many Gods) and that sharing food either within or outside of their faith community is important.

We then enjoyed trying and eating ‘Apples and Honey’ which is a dish shared and eaten during the Jewish festival of ‘Rosh Hashana’ that symbolises the hope for a sweet new year ahead.

European Day of Languages 2025 – German

For this year’s ‘European Day of Languages’, Y6F learned and practiced a few German words, questions and phrases with Miss Stewart.  Here are the children putting some of their new language skills into practice to a familiar tune. Wunderbar kinder…Wunderbar!

In Mr Sutton’s class we looked at a variety of different ways for greetings and the children had to guess where the languages came from when given specific words. The children then worked together to create a class poster displaying the world flags and languages used.

Mental health and yoga

This term Year 3 have been doing Yoga in PE and we were very proud of ourselves for remembering lots of poses we learnt in Year 2. Can you spot our tree?

As part of mental health week we talked about how Yoga can help us to clear our minds and help us to relax.

We tried lots of different breathing exercises such as box breathing and shark breaths. We all loved how calm this made us feel.
