World Mental Health Day

In our Hub today, we participated in World Mental Health Day by wearing yellow and identifying our emotions during circle time. We expressed how we were feeling by choosing between a happy or sad visual.

We love being outdoors. This makes us all feel very happy.

Harvest Hub!

We have had bumper crops in our Hub this year, using a variety of painting techniques to simulate apples, carrots and sweetcorn.

We explored our senses by looking, feeling, smelling and tasting our fruit and vegetables before painting them.

We enjoyed printing with real apples that we hand picked from our community orchard visit.

We loved using a potato masher, making patterns to create our sweetcorn.

The painting technique that we enjoyed the most was footprinting. We had our feet painted then printed on paper, creating the most amazing carrots. It was very sensory………and tickly! The paintbrush tickled us so much that we couldn’t stop laughing.

We had a wonderful sensory experience for our ‘Harvest Thanksgiving’.

Rewards and Consequences

In our second lesson on rewards and consequences, Year 2 discussed how our actions sometimes lead to consequences. The children looked at different actions and thought of an appropriate consequence for each action.

We then discussed our consequences to see if we felt they were fair.

In Miss Mead’s PSHE lesson, we spoke about the definition of a refugee and how/why they flee their country, and whether refugees can be identified by their appearance. We then discussed what rights and responsibilities refugee children could have, comparing and contrasting them to our rights and responsibilities. The UNCRC was then introduced and the children spoke about how rights and responsibilities of the refugee children fit into the UNCRC or whether they do fit at all. The children then worked in groups to identify different Articles within the UNCRC and how we, as children, can meet the policies.

Rewards and Consequences

Year 2 have been  thinking about rewards and consequences in PSHE this week. We talked about positive behaviours and how it feels to be rewarded. Then we sorted behaviours into positive and negative.

Pickering Road Community Orchard Visit

Such excitement in our Hub today as it was our first community visit to Pickering Road Community Orchard.

We travelled in style in our minibus, enjoying the ride as we observed our local area.

Rosie and all the wonderful volunteers look after us so well during our visit.

We picked our own scrumptious apples.

We tasted some juicy apples.

We then went back to our Hub and made some ‘Gruffalo Crumble’ to take home for our tea. It was delicious.

Our Sensory Learners love travelling to our park on our Hub Bus.

They anticipate what is coming next on their visual timetable, demonstrating great excitement.

We all enjoy the ride waving to our friends along the way, arriving safely at our destination.

Rights and Responsibilities

Year 2 have been discussing their rights and responsibilities in school in PSHE this week. They worked in groups to sort their responsibilities from the most important to the least important.

We then had a fantastic discussion about their choices.
