Y4 PE: Outdoor Adventure Activities: Problem Solving

Y4E are enjoying our current Outdoor Adventure Activities in PE and recognising the benefits of working effectively as a team in order to solve problems.  The children have been sharing their opinions on the best way to solve the posed tasks and listening to each other to ensure that everyone feels values and included.

Here in the Bench Challenge, the children had to co-operate with each other to get themselves into height order whilst standing on a bench without touching the floor.

As you can see, the moves were tricky but the children demonstrated great TEAMWORK to accomplish the task!

In the Pen Challenge, the children had to work together as a team to place the marker pen down so that it stood up as far as possible from behind a line. Firstly the task was completed independently…

The children then had to try and better their independent measured reach by working as a Team!

We found that by reaching with support using a lever technique or wrist grip for support that their measured reach was improved.

Great TEAMWORK Y4E!

Bonfire Night!

To celebrate Bonfire Night, we enjoyed using blow and fringe painting techniques to create our fireworks.

Tim had so much fun squeezing the paint onto his tray before fringe painting.

Some of the fireworks we saw on our video were a little too noisy for us but we enjoyed looking at the colours once the volume was turned off.

Blake appeared to understand the importance of fire safety keeping a safe distance from our cosy Hub fire. Blake repeatedly said “Hot!”

Y4 PE: Invasion Games: Football

Y4E were able to recap and demonstrate their knowledge of the skills they learnt in Y3 last year when we began our Football lessons in our new PE Invasion Games unit this term. So far, we have utilised our knowledge of working as a team, space, dribbling, passing and control of the ball as well as attacking and defending.

Y3 JIGSAW: Being Me in My World

In Year 3, we have been identifying our positive traits and the things we would like to achieve this academic year. From achieving a pen licence, learning our times tables, improving our running speed so that we can run faster on Sport’s Day next year to reading more books, the children all recognise that to be the best that they can be they need to practise in order to achieve their newly set goals.

In a class discussion, the children recognised that our actions often bring rewards as well as consequences and have identified the many ways that we can help each other to remain positive. We recognised that at Christopher Pickering, we receive Dojos as a reward and that our Traffic Light System is is place to manage both positive and negative actions. A range of scenarios were explored which enabled the children to work as a team to agree on the many ways we can can solve a situation together as well as to agree on the rewards and consequences that should be in place.

NSPCC PANTS

Year 2 have been learning about the NSPCC Pants rules in PSHE this week. We loved learning the Pantosaurus song and the we designed our own pants!

Y4 JIGSAW: Being Me in My World

In Year 4, we have discussed the concept of the way an individual’s attitude and actions can make a difference to the class team. We also explored the concept of inclusion and exclusion and all agreed that feeling included allows an individual to feel that they belong. We then shared our own definitions of what Teamwork is…

Standing up for each other
Inclusion
Respect
Being kind
Working together
Feeling Safe

The children went on to identify all of the individuals who are a part of the Christopher Pickering Community and realised that in order for our school to function effectively that everyone works together as a TEAM!

For Mental Health Week 2022, as a class we explored the question ‘What is Mental Health?’ We worked collaboratively to arrange and array of situations which may impact on either our physical and mental health or in some instances both.

Hull Hub Fair!

We have had the best time exploring all our emotions and senses at our ‘Hull Hub Fair’ this week!

Our Hub classroom was set up just like the real Hull Fair with stalls and simulating rides!

We travelled in style in our ‘Hub Bus‘ observing our local area and visiting Hull Fair!

We saw lots of rides and were amazed at the size of the ‘Big Wheel’. We viewed the homes of the travelling community and bought some tasty treats to try at our food tasting session.

We couldn’t wait to taste all the food we bought at Hull Fair! We tasted candy floss, pomegranates, brandy snap, nougat. We loved the texture of the coconut but we didn’t want to taste it.

We made our own candy floss, using cotton wool. Some of us weren’t too sure about the texture and didn’t like it sticking to our fingers.

Making our own chocolate apples was the best activity of the week. Most of us went home with very chocolate but very happy faces.

World Mental Health Day

To celebrate World Mental Health Day, the children came to school dressed in yellow. In Year 2, we discussed how we have different feelings throughout the day. We thought about times when we had felt different emotions. In groups we then matched different emotions to different situations. Image

During story time we read Ruby’s Worry and discussed how we deal with our worries.

Mental health awareness week!

For Mental Health Awareness Week, Year 5 have been learning about mental/physical wellbeing. We spoke about how we can improve our wellbeing by moving, eating and sleeping; we discussed how we can achieve these areas and the children worked together to complete the wellbeing jigsaw template.

World Mental Health Day Y6

Year 6 have been thinking about how they can improve their physical and mental wellbeing.

By the end of the lesson the class were expected to make links between physical and mental wellbeing and know how we can look improve them.

The children were then set a challenge. They were asked to come up with suggestions someone else might use to improve their physical and mental wellbeing . Here are some of their suggestions :

Individually they are all brilliant pieces of advice.

Collectively, the messages are stronger!!!
