Who lives in a castle?

This week we have been investigating the question; who lives in a castle?

In the past knights lived in a castle. Today, Queen Elizabeth II and The Royal Family live in castles. We  used QR codes on the iPad’s to research the members of The Royal Family in topic.

We found out that Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip live in Windsor Castle. Prince William lives in Kensington Palace. We are going to use our research to write a fact file on a member of The Royal Family.

KS1’s Royal Ball

Our new topic in Key Stage 1 is ; What makes someone Royal? Our pod has been transformed into a castle with the children looking at castles and the Royal Family past and present.

As a Wow day to launch our topic we all became Royal for the day. We came to school dressed as kings, queens, princes and princesses.

We wrote party invitations for our ball, made jeweled biscuits, bunting and learned a ballroom dance.

In the afternoon we held a Royal Ball in the hall and performed our ballroom dance. It was such a fun day. We can’t wait to get started on our new topic!

Lights, Camel, Action!

As a final outcome for our topic, KS1 put on their own Christmas production showcasing their acting, singing and dancing. It was called ‘Lights, Camel, Action’ and was a Strictly Come Dancing themed retelling of the nativity. There was some fabulous dancing!

Creating Viking Shields!

We have had a really exciting start to our new topic – ‘Were the Vikings really vicious?’

Today we worked together to design and create authentic-looking Viking shields. We learnt about what they would be made from and how they would be used. The completed shields have now been added to our very own long boat in the pod! Great work!

Hull Active Schools Badminton Final

After finishing third in their qualifying tournament, our team of Y6 boys attended the Hull Active Schools timed badminton finals yesterday afternoon.

The competition was incredibly high and our boys have worked hard in practises between competitions. Eventually they finished seventh but had an excellent time regardless. They used this as an opportunity to improve and did a fantastic job of representing the school.

Well done boys!

Diary Entries

Miss Stainton’s class have been working really hard over the past few lessons creating diary entries from a character’s perspective. We have watched the BBC Christmas advert and used it to inspire our work. We have really got the hang of writing in an informal tone. Well done!

Aztec Gods!

We have been exploring the different Aztec gods within our topic lessons and have recently designed our own! We had to think carefully about what their powers would be and how the Aztec people could keep them happy. We then drew pictures and labelled them as we used our imagination to think about their appearance. Super work Miss Stainton’s class!

KS1 take a trip to the Pantomime

As a mini outcome for our topic; “What can you show the world?”, Key Stage 1 went to Hull College last week to watch the Pantomime. We were so excited to be in a real theatre with a real set!

The show was called “Once Upon a Time”. We had a fabulous time and we even got to meet the actors after the show!

The Jolly Christmas Postman

Year 2 have looked at letter writing this term and have written their own letters. We are now looking at the story ‘The Jolly Christmas Postman’. The children created some fantastic signifiers to help them retell the story!

Y56 star pupils enjoy Rock-Up progress treat

On Thursday, 24 children spent their morning climbing at Rock-Up as a reward for their progress and commitment to work in this first term. All of these children have worked exceptionally hard across the board and really deserved a fantastic treat for their efforts.

Well done children we are very proud of you!
