Intra-School Cross Country

Today was our whole-school Cross Country day! A large course was set up on their field and all children got to represent their house in a cross country run. The top five boys’ and girls’ times will be progressing to the Hull Active Schools XC championships next week. However, today’s challenge was all about personal best and children where given the target of completing the race – this shared target was great motivation and 100% of children who started their race finished it. Of that you should all be very proud! Well done.

Rewards and Consequences

Year 2 have been  thinking about rewards and consequences in PSHE this week. We talked about positive behaviours and how it feels to be rewarded. Then we sorted behaviours into positive and negative.

The High Sheriff Visits CPPS!

This afternoon we had a very special visitor in school: Jacky Bowes who is the High Sheriff of the East Riding. The High Sheriff has been spending time with Tigers Trust this week to see firsthand some of the brilliant work they do. She came to CPPS to see the PLPS programme in action and joined in with a Y4 active maths lesson.

Children were working with our partnership coach Will to practise their times tables in a dodgeball type game. Jacky was very impressed and commented on the fantastic attitude of our children. Well done Y4!

PLATINUM SCHOOL GAMES MARK

We are thrilled to announce that we have once again been aware the Platinum School Games Award for 2021-22!

The School Games Mark is a Governmsdent-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward and recognise school’s engagement (provision and uptake) in the School Games against a national benchmark and to celebrate keeping young people active, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

We are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of physical activity and school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our events possible.  We are committed to using the School Games to try and engage those young people who haven’t previously been active or represented our school and to try and ensure that all our students have a positive experience and want to try out new activities beyond school too in our community.  We believe in the power of physical activity and school sport as a school and give opportunities to those young people that need it most either as a participant, leader, official or volunteer.

As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas linked to the five School Games outcomes and we are pleased thatthe hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.

Sports Scholarship: Tennis

Today was the last sports scholarship session of the year and we finished another fantastic year off with a trip to some tennis courts! These outdoor, resin courts are full size and of a very high standard. We spent the afternoon applying out tennis skills in a mini-tournament. We also looked at umpiring and also being ball retrievers. Well done children.

Champion of Champions!!!

Tonight our U11 boys cemented their place as Hull’s school football champions. After winning the West Hull seven-aside league in the Autumn term, they were invited to pay at the Champions tournament. They faced the winner of the East (Neasden) and Central (Collingwood) leagues. The games were tight and many games resulted in 0-0 draws. However our boys were patient and showed real composure and won two of their games 1-0 and 2-0. This saw them crowed the Champion of Champions! These two trophies are in addition to and FA Cup and 5-adide trophies already won the year! A huge well done boys.

Heartbreak in the Y5 finals!

Tonight it was the turn of our year 5 boys to attend the Hull Active Schools five aside finals. The boys cruised through the early rounds and were gaining confidence. A solid performance in the semifinal saw them head into the final game looking very comfortable. However, a very unlucky start saw them concede twice and the boys could not recover from that point. Gillshill Primary controlled the game well and saw the clock out. It was a tough way to end the competition after playing so well in this round and the previous qualifiers, but credit to the Gillshill boys who were the better team when it counted the most.

This still means our boys finished second in Hull and we are very proud of this achievement! Better luck next year in he Y6 comp, boys.

Y5 five aside: (L-R) Ewan D, Charnley B, Ashton R, Tinashe G, Harrie G & Jack S.

Y6 win five-aside finals!

Wow! What a night for our Y6 boys! Tonight they won the Y6 five aside finals after and dominant performance throughout tonight and the qualifying event. They boys played incredibly well, keeping their composure and finishing goals in a clinical performance. Well done boys, another trophy to add to the collection!

Tri-Golf County Finals

Today was the Tri-Golf county finals. We had three teams present from Year 4, 5 and 6. Our children were not only representing CPPS, but the Hull in a series of golf challenges against schools from East Riding, Lincolnshire and North East Lincs. Taking place at Cottingham Park Golf Club, children worked their way through ten different challenge stations which tested their putting and chipping skills.

It was a hot, humid day and there were a few yawns coming from children (and staff!) after a scorching sports day the previous day. However, everyone had a fantastic time and we were thrilled when out Year 5 team won silver medals. This means they’re second in the Humber region! A huge well done to all involved.

Y4 Cracking Cricket!

This half term Y4 have started their PE unit on cricket. We have been looking at effective bowling and the role of a wicket keeper. Our last lesson was all about effective fielding and how we can gather a rolling ball and make an effective fielding decision. Back to the bowler or go for the bails? You decide children!

‘Continuous Cricket’ focussing on fielding to the bowler to create an opportunity to bowl a batter out away from the stumps.

‘Beat the Batter’ the batter had to run the length of the wicket and back before the fielder could gather the ball and throw it at the stumps!
