Sports Scholarship Dance Workshop

This week out sports scholarship group took part in a dance workshop. Dance instructor Leisel Cobby spent the afternoon working with children to choreograph a dance in response to a piece of modern music. A huge well done to those children who pushed themselves out of their comfort zone and really got stuck into this activity. Video coming soon!

Rehearsing hard for the final performance

A tiring but thoroughly enjoyable afternoon!

In Year 4 this term, we are exploring what it means to a follower of a faith to belong to their community.  So far, the children have explored what it means to belong to the Jewish Community by listening to Charlie, a young boy, who feels immensely proud of his faith and demonstrates upmost respect to the Jewish rules, values, traditions and customs it imparts.

You can access the link below to see how Charlie has helped us gain new knowledge about his religious community:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/religious-studies-ks2-what-is-judaism/zfbhf4j

To extend our learning, we explored various symbols which have significant meaning for the Jewish Community such as the Torah (Hebrew Bible), the Kippah (a hat worn by men and boys in the Synagogue), the Tallit (a prayer shawl), the Menorah (a candelabrum) and the Kiddush Cup (used in special ceremonies/blessings). This led to a discussion of the symbols we see in our everyday life and the meanings they have within our own communities that we belong to.

We all feel that Charlie has helped us to understand better how he, as a follower of the Jewish faith, feels about belonging to his religious community and as a result can compare his feelings with those of our own in relation to the communities we all belong to eg: Family, Friends, Clubs, Christopher Pickering, Phase 3/4 and many more. Thanks Charlie!

Y4 Badminton

Y4E have thoroughly enjoyed their Badminton lessons with our visitor Paul Pratt this term.  We have learnt how to hold the racket using a forehand and backhand (thumb grip), how to present and hold the shuttle and perfected our stance (T position).  After lots of practice both independently and with a partner, we were able to demonstrate our skills in a volley.

Thank-you Paul for the skills you have taught us.

Solid start to the seven-aside league!

Tonight, the boys started their defence of the seven-aside league title. Being league holders and Champion Leagues winners, there was pressure on the boys to perform but they beat a determined Francis Askew in all four games.

Well done boys keep up the hard work.

A solid performance from Farai, Alex, Harrie, Kye, Ashton (c) Harry, Ethan and Ewan (L-R)

Boys cruise to Humber 7s finals

Tonight out boys attended their HAS seven-aside qualifying event. It was their first games of the year and with some new players in the team, we were unsure of how they would perform. However, they quickly got to grips with their new positions and settled into their games, winning all the them comfortably.

The boys now progress onto the Humberside finals in November. Good luck boys and well done!

Hull Active Schools Inter-school Cross Country

This afternoon, 10 children from Y56 represented CPPS in Hull Active Schools Cross Country  Championships. These children were selected to represent the school due to their finishing times at the intra-house race at school last week.

The conditions this year were the worst I have ever seen it! The rain held back a little for the boys race, but he wind was still howling throughout. The girls race was another level – a huge rain storm descended which soon became hail and sleet. Some girls gave up half way round due to the conditions. However, all of our girls dug deep and reached the finish.

We will have to await the results for the team events but on the day, Y5’s Jack S finished third place and came away with a bronze medal.

Well done to all children – you did amazing in challenging conditions!

Sheltering before the races started!

The boys post race: (L-R) Harrie G, Vinnie A, Jack S, Max W & Archie C

The girls post race: (L-R) Alesha L, Lola F, X, Fatima R, Olivia S

Special mention to Vinnie and Archie who braved the storm to help HAS to clear up cones and markers after the races.

KS1 Stay and Read

Key Stage One were very excited to welcome our parents, grandparents and carers into school this week. We impressed them with our Phonics skills in a Speed Sound session and then we read a book to them.

To end the session we shared a book for pleasure with them from our class libraries.

It was lots of fun! We love to read in KS1!

Rewards and Consequences

In our second lesson on rewards and consequences, Year 2 discussed how our actions sometimes lead to consequences. The children looked at different actions and thought of an appropriate consequence for each action.

We then discussed our consequences to see if we felt they were fair.

Girls get football season underway

Tonight our U11s girls got this year’s football season underway with a seven-aside qualifying event. Five other schools were in attendance which meant the girls got lots of games. Coming up against some very good games, the girls were challenged to improve every game and at a minimum, finish the game with a draw. After losing the first two games, the girls worked hard in the final three and met their target – they were also unlucky to come away without scoring a goal.

Keep up the hard work girls – we’re proud of you determination and sure you will continue to improve.

Researching archaeological sources of evidence

Year 6 have enjoyed getting stuck into our ‘Ancient Maya’ history focus so far this year. Today, we focused on archaeological findings to deepen our knowledge and understanding about their way of life. Children were set their assignments on Google Classroom and were able to conduct independent research, watching videos and browsing reliable websites, to study what the archaeological findings can teach us about these fascinating people.
