The King Who Banned The Dark

Year 2’s new Writing text this term is The King Who Banned the Dark. This week, the children have learned the signifiers for the story, created story maps and acted in the role of the king!

Tales Toolkit

We enjoyed using Tales Toolkit, with the help of visuals and objects, to retell the story of The Gruffalo’s Child.

In our story we included characters, a setting, a problem and a solution.

We created a trail in the snow to follow the path of The Grufallo’s Child, using a potato print representing paw prints.

The Gruffalo’s Child

We demonstrated good sitting, looking and listening skills during our new story of The Gruffalo’s Child.

We showed a great interest in pictures following them with our eye gaze.

Some of us even imitated phrases from the story. Aha! Oho!

In today’s English lesson, Year 5 studied a range of letters of complaint. We analysed the grammatical and structural features of a letter and then worked in partners to identify these features. We worked together amazingly and are now much more confident when finding features of a letter.

Year 5 Cinquain poetry

Today we have started to look at the features of Cinquain poetry and how it differs from other poetry that we have looked at. We have started to create our own Cinquain poems about the beach.

Brilliant Boxes!!!!!!

We have had the best time playing with our large cardboard boxes.

We have used our imagination by making dens, houses, garages, beds, played games e.g. peek-a-boo but most of all we have enjoyed using them as our quiet reading spaces.

We have taken lots of books in to our boxes making our own little personal library.

Peek – a – boo!!!!!!!!

Our fabulous ‘Harty’!

To finish our story ‘You must bring a hat!’ we had the best afternoon celebrating with our very own HARTY (hat-party!)

We made our own invites, lists for party food and prepared our own party sandwiches! We had a fabulous afternoon with party games, dancing, singing and a HAT CONGA!!!

Exploring the character Finn

Year 2’s fiction text this half term is The Star Maker’s Apprentice. This week they have explored the main character, Finn. They wrote questions that they wanted to ask Finn and then did hot seating in the role of him.

They then used these ideas to write a diary entry in the role of Finn. Later in the week, they generated adjectives to describe Finn and wrote some fantastic character descriptions. Well done Year 2!

Party planning in F1

As part of our Celebration topic, we have been thinking about Birthday Parties.

We came up with all sorts of ideas of everything we would need for a party and drew our ideas out altogether.  Everyone got involved!
