Hat Crazy!

This week we introduced our new story ‘You MUST bring a hat!’

The children LOVED this story and it inspired us to get HAT CRAZY!

We have explored all different types of hats…tall hats, spotty hats, sparkly hats, HUGE hats! And have loved using our imagination to describe them and discuss what they might be useful for!

We have looked at iconic hats through history, characters who wear hats and hats from all around the world!

The children hosted their very own ‘HAT-WALK’…strutting their stuff down our very own red carpet!

We also had a ‘Mad-Hatter’ tea party…but of course to attend…YOU MUST BRING A HAT!

Greek Myths

This morning in English,  Year 5 have been immersing themselves in the invaluable heritage of tales from Greek myths and legends that are filled with envious gods, courageous heroes and epic adventures to hook them into our new unit of English work: creating a Greek mythical story.

Signifiers!

In English this week Year 1 have been learning the signifiers for their new story ‘Little Red Riding Hood’.

We read the story as a class before learning the signifiers. The children then practiced in their groups before performing them to each other. We can’t wait to explore the story further next week!

The Star Maker’s Apprentice

Year 2 have started their new fiction unit this week; The Star Maker’s Apprentice. To immerse themselves in the story. The children learned the signifiers for the story and used them to retell the story.Image

Then they drew story maps and acted out the story!

Hot seating and generating vocabulary

Year 5 are enjoying their new English unit, The Little Freak.

In yesterday’s lesson, we focused on internal monologues to understand why they are a useful tool for the audience. We hot seated children as the boy from The Little Freak film and other children generated questions to ask him.

The children then worked in pairs to generate vocabulary that could be useful in a monologue for the little boy. This work will be a useful tool for today’s English lesson when the children write a monologue from The Little Freak.

Hull Fair Day “The Best Day Ever!”

This week we had…”The Best Day EVER!” celebrating the annual event of HULL FAIR!

We talked about our experiences of going to Hull Fair and discussed our favourite bits. We explored our senses of the fair… what can we see, smell, hear, touch and taste!

“I had candy floss, it was pink and soft”- Sara

“I had sausage and chips, it was tasty!”- Ivy

“I saw a Helter Skelter, the slide was going round and round, it was so fast!” -Mason

“There was a big wheel, it’s a giant one!”- Poppy

Following the children’s excitement we held our own fun fair… making chocolate apples, coconut shy, target games, hoops, big building and roller coaster riding! Our children declared it the “the BEST day ever!”

“Who done it?!”

There has been a crime in F2!

The only people who can solve it are our very own detectives! Luckily they were up for the job and wasted no time in the hunt for clues! A broken chair? Porridge oats? And a strand of golden locks??? Who could it be???

We had the best afternoon discovering clues from our story of the week and loved drawing a picture of our discovered culprit to use as posters for our classroom! We had some brilliant discussions and TALK time as a group. We all decided to take our hunt outside…we may have even spotted GOLDILOCKS herself running from the scene of the crime!

We came to the conclusion that she must have smelt the delicious porridge we had been cooking in the morning and decided to sneak a taste whilst we were out over dinner! We think she needs to write a letter of apology!!!

Newspaper Report Introduction

On Friday, Year 5 created a shared (with partners) newspaper report introduction, including the 5Ws – who, what, where, when, why. We are really enjoying our English unit about the ‘Titanium’ music video. Miss Mead is so impressed by all the hard work and determination we put into our writing!
