HUB – Computing

As we near the end of our photography unit, we really enjoyed further extending our skills by using Pixlr x to add effects and change the appearance of the image.

We were able to talk about which effects we found the most affective and enjoyed playing around with the images to get the desired effect to match our creative ideas.

HUB – Art

As Artists this week, we were trying to recreate Julian Opie’s simplicity and line drawing techniques within a sculpture.

We looked at his self portrait and discussed the lines and shapes that we needed to represent this image in clay. We manipulated the clay with our fingers and used the tools to craft and add details.

We loved wearing the aprons and getting stuck in with this messy material. What do you think to our masterpieces?

HUB – Division in Maths

We made great use of our tools this week to develop our understanding of division. As were were working so well, we were able to move on to learn how to calculate division with remainders. We worked practically for a few days before applying our skills to questions in our books, our teacher was really proud of the resilience that we demonstrated to ‘crack’ this mathematical skill. Here are some images of our fabulous calculation skills….

HUB – Geography

What is it like in London?

As Geographers, we wanted to know what London was like. Some of us have been there and visited attractions such as LegoLand in WIndsor but for the rest of the class needed to use digital tools to virtually explore.

We looked at maps and used the key to find features of London….

We studied aerial photographs to explore what we could see…

We examined a range of photographs and compared London to places that we have been …

And..

We learned how to use QR codes to help us jump to websites that showed us the attractions in London that are popular with children and families. We would LOVE to visit!

HUB – SID and Children’s Mental Health Week

Tuesday 7th February 2023 – Safer Internet Day

This week in the HUB, we were discussing how to keep ourselves safe online. We all love gaming and being online but we know that we have to be careful about the information we share. We scored highly when we completed our surveys and we knew which information was safe to share and which information was unsafe and we were able to talk about why that was.

6th – 10th February – Children’s Mental Health Week

This week, we have been reflecting on what makes us happy and thinking about this years theme of Lets Connect. We spent time talking with each other, to learn more about our friends and what makes each other happy.  We played with new friends, sat with other children at lunch and learned about our shared favourite things whist playing parachute games. It’s all about the HAPPY in the HUB 🙂

HUB – Music

Exploring Feelings Through Music – How does Music Make the World a Better Place?

In this weeks Music lesson, we listened to a piece of Music called Maple Leaf Rag that was over 100 years old! We said that it made us feel happy and that we wanted to dance and move our bodies to it!

It was composed by Scott Joplin, An American Musician…..

and was to be played on a piano or the pianola which was a self-playing mechanical musical instrument.

We then revised our song, “Music is in me” and accompanied it by improvising on the Glockenspiel using the notes C D E.

Have a listen…

HUB – Art

This week we looked at portraits drawn by the Artist Julian Opie.

We talked about what we liked and disliked about these images and explored how the Artist had used simple lines to create such effective, bold portraits.

This week, we used pens to sketch and create bold black lines to and recreate some of the portraits. What do you think to our work?

HUB – Computing

In our fourth Computing photography lesson, we have been learning about the use of lighting to improve our photographs.

We were able to discuss these 6 images and explain why we would keep or delete them based upon our knowledge from the previous three lessons, using great vocabulary, blurry, too dark, unfocused and unclear.

We used the camera app on the ipads and examined a variety of conditions to see which gave us the best lighting for our shots. We then used an extra source of light and explored some creative shots…..

We liked the dramatic use of light on Preston’s face! The class decided that this shot worked well with our story in English, which is The King Who Banned the Dark, with Preston as the King that was afraid of the dark.

This was another of our favourite creative shots. Can you guess how we made it?

Which classroom item is the light shining through here?

HUB – Art

This term we were asking ‘What can you see?” as Artists. We were looking very carefully at our own photographs to sketch our faces and features. We used a sketching technique and learned how to use a pencil to create shading. We were very proud of the results… take a look!
