Autumn 2 Week 1

Oobleck!

On Monday we explored the amazing substance that is Oobleck, thinking about whether it was a solid, liquid or both! We listened to the Dr Zeuss Story, Bartholemew and the Oobleck and then made our very own Oobleck to play with and explore. We decided that we would NOT like Oobleck to fall from the sky but loved being able to explore it’s texture as part of our practical Science Lesson,

Tuesday – Panathlon Event

On Tuesday, we went to Costello Stadium to participate in the SEN Panathalon Event, competing against other Hull School! We earned points for our teams through participating in 12 sporting activities and are proud to announce that we came third! We all brought home medals and certificates and for some of our class it was our very first medal so the levels of pride we amazing! The wonderful young Sports Leaders from Kelvin Secondary School supported our activities and helped us to have a wonderful day.

Wednesday

Our creative juices were flowing today as we composed really effective firework poetry and beautiful firework inspired art. We explored three techniques  – pointillism, wax relief and chalk pastel to create our master pieces.

Week 7

States of Matter

As Scientists, we have been exploring what makes a liquid, solid and gas, Today we were exploring the use of equipment to record and measure. We carried out an investigation to see how the temperature of a hot drink and a cold drink changed over a period of time and talked about why that happened, there were some fantastic discussions. Well done team!

Thank You!

We revisited the police station on Pickering Road to deliver our wonderful, neatly written letters of thanks, The Police officers were really moved by the special delivery. We appreciated their time and kindness during our visit and wanted to thank these every day heroes.

Green Heroes

We wanted to give back to the community so we were Green Heroes on our visit to Pickering Park!

Week 6

Hull Active Schools – Boccia SEN Event

On Tuesday, we went to Costello Sports Centre to compete against other schools in the SEN Boccia competition!

Cross Country Run

The sun was shining on Friday morning which was great timing for our annual cross country run. Our students were amazing and enjoyed the event running with their friends and demonstrating great resilience even when it became a little tough!

Week 5

Humberside Fire and rescue Service

On Monday, we had a very special assembly with a visitor called Mark. he works for the Fire and Rescue service – a real life community Hero! He talked to us about the fact that the most of the work they do is rescue work rather than putting out fires and chatted with us about keeping safe when we are out and about.

He gave a great demonstration, using an egg in a tiny bicycle helmet. The egg was protected by the helmet when it dropped, just like our precious head would be but without the helmet – it was a disaster! the egg smashed and it helped us to realise how important wearing a helmet is when we are out on our bikes and scooters.

Later in the week, we wrote scripts for a Road Safety program and then filmed them to help others learn the important messages that we learned from Mark.

Macmillan Fundraising

We  counted all the money that we had raised and begged it up then we went for a walk to the local post office to deposit the money into Macmillan’s Charity account.

Week 4

International Sign Language Day

Our friends from IPass, came to visit today to mark International Sign Language Day. They talked to us about the importance of sign language for hearing impaired learners and taught us some of the signs that we might be able to use on the playground when socialising with out IPass friends. We had great fun learning and practicing the signs.

New Playground Equipment

Today, Mr Morgan introduced us to some of the new playground equipment. We talked about sharing and working collaboratively as well as being creative in our use of this new equipment. It was wonderful to listen to the ways in which our class decided to play with and use the equipment – fantastic team work guys!

Magnificent Macmillan Fund Raising!

Our challenge this week was to plan, organise and deliver a bun sale to raise money for charity. We talked about how charity workers are real life heroes and how they can help so many people at a time when it is really needed!

We used our maths skills to budget and plan our shopping list.

We used our literacy skills to promote the sale, designing eye catching posters and using the key facts. We also created signs for the bake sale table to let customers know what we were offering and how much it cost.

We used our beautiful manners and skills to shop at Sainsbury’s for the baked goods.

We worked independently of adults, and as a team, to sell our baked goods to over a hundred customers, taking payments and giving change. We raised £116 for Macmillan charity!

Week 3

Powerful Pop Art

Inspired by cartoon style pop art – we have been learning about contrasting colours this week to create some yummy doughnut art that really catches the eye!

We then adapted this technique to reflect our own interests and created some powerful, popping large scale pop art that is now proudly displayed in class. Possibly our best work yet….

Wanted!

As well as super heroes there are always super villans! This week we wrote and posted up wanted posters to catch those pesky criminals!

Flat Bread (again)

Due to popular demand, we rolled up our sleeves, got our our rolling pins and made yummy flat bread. Our kneading techniques are coming along nicely!

Week 2

Snack Café

This year we have applied for roles within our snack café. We have a waiter, a chef and a pot washer getting to work each morning and making sure that our hungry learners energy levels are kept up! Mrs Norton and I have noted the lovely manners and great communication between the children at this time, whilst developing important independence skills. Well done team!

Digital Creativity

During choosing time, they boys challenged each other to create their favourite characters! Can you tell who they have made?

Tigers Trust Thursday

We are very lucky to be able to work with Coach Brad this half term, developing our sporting skills through lots of fun games and activities within PE sessions.

Life Skills

We followed a simple recipe to make and bake our own flat bread – the results were “12 out of 10” according to the boys 🙂 We are keen to do this again but with garlic or cheese.

Week 1

Welcome Back class of 2025/26!

A huge welcome back to our wonderful students. So good to see you all after such a long, lovely summer. Everyone has come back to school looking so smart and demonstrating such enthusiasm and great learning behaviours, we could not be more proud!

New Topic

This half term we are learning about the qualities of a hero, from our favourite fictional heroes to real life heroes in the community that we can aspire to be.

New Home!

We are enjoying our new class, which is upstairs and within the Y5/6 pod. When we need a brain break we are hopping on the exercise bike on our balcony and enjoying the view whilst we burn off some energy!
