Chinese New Year!

The children in the Hub have been demonstrating excellent use of fine motor skills this week for our Chinese New Year celebrations.

We enjoyed our food tasting session with noodles, spring rolls and rice crackers on the menu. We used chopsticks to eat our noodles with and Raphael was crowned King of the Chopsticks.

The children displayed safe use of scissors and excellent cutting skills making their lanterns.

Good speaking and listening skills were also displayed during our story of the day ‘Cleversticks’, beautifully read by Stephanie.

Mud Kitchen

We love digging for ingredients to use in our mud kitchen. Today we made chicken noodle soup!

Read, Write Inc Parents Afternoon

Thank you so much to all the parents that were able to make our ‘Read, Write Inc’ afternoon today.

The children absolutely loved it and were keen to show what they do during phonics lessons, and how they share books with you.

Molly is this weeks Y2 Reading Champion!!

Every week, the Y2 staff will be choosing a pupil to be crowned ‘Reading Champion’ to encourage the love of reading and for the children to share and read books at home and in school.

This weeks reading champion is Molly who is currently reading George’s Marvellous Medicine! Well done Molly!

I am reading George’s Medicine and I am really enjoying it. My favourite part is where the Grandma and George are mean to each other. He is so polite but his Grandma is mean to him.

I have got up to the part where where Grandma can no longer fit in the house because George has made a medicine so that she has grown so tall.

I really like reading at home and I always read at bedtime. by Molly

Physical Tuesday

Even in F1 we love PE. We have been enjoying our dinosaur PE learning how to move like a dinosaur and digging for treasure relays. We also have been learning to throw and catch a bean bag. We also like to go outside on to the year 1/2 MUGA.

Tales Toolkit

In F1 we have started building our own stories using our Tales Toolkit. We know a story needs a character, setting, problem and solution.

Creative and Performing Arts Workshop

Earlier this week, Miss Staines took 15 Year 5 pupils to Sirius Academy West to take part in a Creative and Performing Arts Workshop. The day was based on the musical School of Rock and throughout the morning the children took part in a dance, drama and music session. In drama, the children refined their acting skills while performing a scene from the musical; while working with a dance teacher, they learned a dance to one of the songs from School of Rock and in music they learned a song from the musical. In the afternoon, the children were selected to perform in either the drama, dance or music piece to the rest of the children in a celebration assembly at the end of the day. Reegan S was selected for a starring role in the dance piece and Chloe H and Megan D were chosen for starring roles in the drama piece.

Reegan S, Laura S, Poppy T and Ryan R performing in the dance piece and Darcie C, Zayne N, Declan G, Imogen T, Harry R, Dylan D, Ruby P and Cole O performing in the music piece.

A huge well done to Zayne N, Declan G and Reegan S who won prizes for their enthusiasm and outstanding performing skills throughout the day.

Viking Shields

To launch their new topic, Anglo Saxons and Vikings, Year 5 designed and created Viking Shields. First of all, we looked at some sources of evidence, depicting original and replica Viking shields and discussed the size and shape of the shields; the materials used to make the shields and the colours commonly used to decorate them. Using these ideas, we designed and constructed our own replica, Viking shield.
