Hull Active Schools Netball Tournament

We had a great time tonight playing 3 games of Netball against the hosts, Hymers, as well as Adelaide and Eastfield Primary schools.

With great passing, careful footwork and fantastic team work we were able to win one game and came very close to drawing another!

Thank you to all of the spectators that came to support us and cheer us on, we really appreciated it!

We have two more games still to play against Rokeby and Francis Askew!

3…2…1…DODGEBALL!

Tonight it was the turn of our Y56 children to attend a dodgeball festival at Sirius Academy West. The competition was being hosted by Hull Active Schools with the objective of promoting three key sporting values – determination, teamwork and honesty. In order to receive a certificate, children had to demonstrate these values and complete a sticker chart. Well done to all of our children to achieved this and had a brilliant time! What a fab end to World Book Day.

Safer Internet Day 2024

Year 5 have enjoyed celebrating Safer Internet Day! We discussed how technology has changed over time and how we would want technology to look in the next 20 years.

Investigate and focused practical task

Year 5 have started their D&T unit for the Autumn term: designing and creating their own sandals. Over the past two lessons, the children have explored a range of sandals and analysed the design, material, purpose, audience and functionality. The children then began their focused practical task that involved tracing around their feet on card and cutting the templates out neatly and carefully. They then practiced some key skills that are going to be applied to the final piece, such as pinning, sewing and stitching straps onto their templates.

Talk for Writing – Smaug

Year 5 have started their first Talk for Writing unit in English. Our fiction text is called Smaug – a young boy who sets about his mission to defeat Smaug, the infamous dragon. The children have really enjoyed learning the story off by heart using signifiers. Below are some photographs of the children acting the ‘beating the monster’ story.

Children in need donations

Some of our Y6 House Captains collecting all of our donations for Children in Need. Our school will be making a difference to the lives of children and young people who really need our help!

Art exhibition

We are so proud to have held our first Christopher Pickering Art Exhibition.

The whole school spent several weeks in preperation practising our art skills using different medias and exploring different artists work in order to create our art work. Some of us used collage, some used oil pastels, colour washing, paint, pencil and marker pens to name just some of the media in our final masterpieces. We drew on all the rt skills we have developed so far to help us create our fantastic art work and combined this with the influence of different artists including Tracey Savage, Van Gough, Paul Klee and Kandinsky.

We were all very proud when had the opportunity to visit the gallery and see our work displayed in frames and named just like true artists.

We hope that everybody who had chance to visit the gallery had a lovely time.

Y5 Bikeability

This week, Year 5 have been taking part in the Bikeability course! The children have been working extremely hard to improve their cycling skills… the confidence of the children has sky rocketed: they are doing fabulously!

Here are some images of the children being super independent.
