Flexdance Workshop Day!

Today we’ve celebrated Flexdance Inc’s birthday with a day of dance workshops! Years 1-6 all took part in a fabulous session where they learned a dance to some current hits! Well done everyone, it was great to see so many children (and staff!) have a great time.

Y6 Maya calendar

In year 6 we have been looking at the Mayan calendar. Using their calendar round system the children successfully calculated specific dates. The children loved learning about the Maya numbers and worked really well!

Y5 Comparison of Autumnal Religious Festivals

In Year 5 this term, we are learning how people of faith express their religious beliefs through the festivals they celebrate, the ways in which they practice their faith within their communities and through the clothing that they wear.

Today we compared 3 Autumnal festivals in the way that they are celebrated and the messages that they each convey to their faith followers:

The Christian celebration of Harvest is a festival that teaches that we should help and share those who are vulnerable and less fortunate within our community and be thankful to God.

The Hindu celebration of Diwali is a time for faith followers to reflect and and of uniting with others in their community to celebrate light overcoming darkness.

The Jewish celebration of Rosh Hashana is time for Jewish faith followers to reflect on the year that has passed and to seek forgiveness.

Our comparisons found that each of theses magnificent festivals occur in the Autumn; that each faith believes in a God or Gods (Hindus worship many Gods) and that sharing food either within or outside of their faith community is important.

We then enjoyed trying and eating ‘Apples and Honey’ which is a dish shared and eaten during the Jewish festival of ‘Rosh Hashana’ that symbolises the hope for a sweet new year ahead.

European Day of Languages 2025 – German

For this year’s ‘European Day of Languages’, Y6F learned and practiced a few German words, questions and phrases with Miss Stewart.  Here are the children putting some of their new language skills into practice to a familiar tune. Wunderbar kinder…Wunderbar!

In Mr Sutton’s class we looked at a variety of different ways for greetings and the children had to guess where the languages came from when given specific words. The children then worked together to create a class poster displaying the world flags and languages used.

Year 6 Dia de Los Meurtos

The children in Year 6 have been delving and looking into the festival Dia de Los Meurtos (The Day of the Dead).  They have been watching the animation linked to the festival and have been researching this vibrant colourful celebration with their aim to write a persuasive letter to Mrs Marson to enable them to dress up and join in the festivities!

Decoding The Food And Drink On A Day Of The Dead Altar : The Salt : NPR Dia de los Muertos, A Colorful Animated Short Film Showing the True ...

The children are really looking forward to be able to dress up, get their faces painted and learn more about this amazing topic!

The Nowhere Emporium – Year 5

The children in Year 5 received a mysterious golden invitation inviting them to visit and explore the wonders of the “Nowhere Emporium”. They excitedly entered the smaller classroom in the Y56 POD only to discover that it had transformed – as if by magic – into an emporium of wonders!

There were dragons and owls, cards and potions, a well-dress mannequin, jewels and an array of other intriguing objects that captured our attention and sent our imaginations running wild.

When they returned to their classrooms, the children discovered that they would be reading “The Nowhere Emporium” this term and that their writing work would be centered around this book.

It was certainly a fantastic ‘hook’ to get us all excited for our English lessons!

Y6 Netball Team

Our Netball superstars played amazingly during our West Hull league games this week! The team work, skills and determination was absolutely amazing. The games were hosted at Sirius, supported by the Y8 girls who gave up their time umpire the match. We played Bricknell and two Eastfield teams (plus a friendly at the end of the session) so went home happy but exhausted! We still have Adelaide to play and are looking forward to this match. We couldn’t have been more proud! Well done team 🙂

truffle making

In our DT unit, Year 6 have been learning about chocolate, from bean to bar. Our final piece was to design and make their very own chocolate truffles! The children chose their own chocolate, flavourings and toppings to cook their truffles. They did amazingly!

The Highway Man

In our new English unit, The Highway Man by Alfred Noyes, year 6 have been analysing the  vocabulary within the poem and using their inference skills to understand the plot. They have also started to create their own story map of the narrative poem!
