Year 2 have been learning our new story ‘The Darkest Dark’ by Chris Hadfield. They have learned the signifers for the story, created a story map and acted out the story!
Acting out The Darkest Dark
By Miss P STATHERS11th November 2020
Today in Year 1 we are being detectives and trying to think who has visited us. Who could it be?
We used the clues that had been left to write some interesting sentences using the word because.
Some of us thought it could be a White Witch because on the table was a gold, sparkly crown and some white snow.
Hopefully we can find out tomorrow who it really was ……..
Year 2 have been learning about the importance of hygiene in Science. We read the story ‘Dirty Bertie’ and then we gave Bertie some tips on how to improve his hygiene.
Then we started our own experiment. We put our handprint on a piece of bread and sealed it in a bag. Then we washed our hands and put our handprint on another piece of bead. We are going to observe our bread over time and record what happens to each piece of bread.
We can’t wait to see what happens to the bread!
Year one loved exploring their senses in English this week. We focussed on what we might hear, feel and see in winter. This inspired some superb adjectives that we will use when writing our winter poems next week!
This week in science we looked at animals and whether they live in hot or cold climates. We also discussed that different species of foxes live in both climates. We looked at why the Arctic fox was white so it can camouflage in the snow to sneak up on its prey or hide from predators. We acted this out and had a lot of fun!

Year one have been looking at a variety of part/whole models. We understand that the parts add together to make the whole. Next we will use our models to write number sentences using + and =. Superstars!

Today was our first lesson on ball skills in Y1 and we all loved it!
We learned lots about how to control the ball, what dribbling means and how many different ways we could send a ball!
We also looked at why we have to keep our eye on the ball and why we have to be accurate when we are throwing!

In Year 1 we have been listen to and appraising rap music! We all loved it and enjoyed dancing to the rhythm and pulse! We liked listening to the words and finding out what the rappers were saying.
Alongside this we all got to perform our very own rap song called Hey You! from Charanga. We have been learning the song and rap sections from it.
This week in PE we have been learning and performing a group dance to Katie Perry’s song Firework!
We started by learning some moves as a whole group.
Next, we thought of our own moves in small groups and practised how to perform them in a synchronised way.
Then, we chose the moves we wanted to add to our whole class dance and performed the whole sequence as one big routine.
Well done Year 2!
Year 1 had a fantastic afternoon at Pickering Park looking for signs of Autumn and exploring the great outdoors! We had our very own scavenger hunt and ticked our check list for all the different animals and tree/leaf species we could see and identify! We talked about different types of trees and the size of different leaves. We sketched and observed a variety of different species of tree and talked about why some were bare and some were still ‘evergreen’! We loved joining in with some Forest School games and chants! We took our learning back to the classroom to carry on our tree identification and inspire our very own Autumnal nature area, using all our goodies we had collected on the way!
