We have recently been learning about life in the Stone Age. The children were particularly interested in the Stone Age method of heating liquids with hot stones. We therefore decided to try to replicate this method by attempting to raise the temperature of cold water by adding hot stones. This was much more difficult than we thought it would be! It led us to ask the questions: Why not hold  the vessel directly over the water? and How long would it take to raise the temperature of the liquid to boiling point?

The children in year 4 have been investigating the effect of changing the conditions needed for a gladioli bulb to grow. They had previously learnt about the basic conditions needed for plant growth; food, light and water so decided to experiment with the soil type and amount, nutrient type and frequency of watering. They found that the bulb grew tallest when it had been covered in a good layer of soil, watered regularly and had had bone meal added to the soil. They were quite surprised at how tall each plant grew!

FS1 had fun using the Ipad’s to take photographs of themselves

This morning we have read the story ‘The Magic Porridge Pot’.

We really enjoyed it, ‘stop pot, stop pot!’.

We had lots of ‘porridge’ activities… it was lots of fun!
