Having learned the signifiers so that we could orally retell the story of ‘The King Who Banned The Dark’ we used our phonic knowledge and writing skills to write the story too. These students demonstrated amazing resilience whilst working this week and the smiles on their faces say it all, well done boys!
Last week in computing, we learned how to choose whether we should take a photograph in landscape or portrait mode. We revised these terms and used this knowledge to help us with our framing activity today. We used the paper frames to help us consider What makes a good photograph. We took into consideration focus, framing and distance.

Being photographers made us look more closely at details and as we went outside we found some really beautiful objects to photograph.

As Scientists this week, we were out and about identifying materials in our everyday environment. We worked well in pairs to identify the materials and then we had a chat about why that material worked well for its purpose. We were able to give good explanations such as “It is strong, it is waterproof, it won’t bend and it is colourful” as we though carefully about the objects use/function.
We loved creating our Gruffalo faces!
We used a sponge painting technique to represent the fur.
We then copied the features on the Gruffalo’s face using 2D shaped card consisting of circles, squares and triangles.
We don’t think they are scary at all! We think the Grufallo and The Grufallo’s Child are really friendly! We love them!
We enjoyed using Tales Toolkit, with the help of visuals and objects, to retell the story of The Gruffalo’s Child.
In our story we included characters, a setting, a problem and a solution.
We created a trail in the snow to follow the path of The Grufallo’s Child, using a potato print representing paw prints.
We demonstrated good sitting, looking and listening skills during our new story of The Gruffalo’s Child.
We showed a great interest in pictures following them with our eye gaze.
Some of us even imitated phrases from the story. Aha! Oho!
We are learning about London, its Geography and History in the HUB. This is a place that many of our class have visited so it captures our interest. We talked about the places that we had been and the places that we know when we looked at a variety of London landmarks. We talked about the shape of these places and used our sketch book to capture firstly the outline and then the detail within the shape. Our final pieces are hanging proudly in our classroom.
We were particularly proud of our classmate Amelia. The photograph below shows her first and final piece and the difference is AMAZING! She showed great resilience and responded well to feedback to create her detailed Wembley Sketch.
We enjoyed using a creative painting technique today, using cotton reels to simulate snow on our winter tree display.
Good looking, listening and turn taking skills shone through from our little Hubbers.
We demonstrated amazing teamwork skills completing our activity together.
