Chocolate Fair Apples!

This afternoon in HUB1 we made our very own fairground chocolate apples, in celebration of Hull Fair week!

The children loved chocolate tasting and watching what happens to the chocolate when it heats in the microwave. We loved stirring the chocolate and exploring it’s texture once it had melted! The children had a go at independently dunking their apples and dipping in sprinkles to create the perfect yummy chocolate apples!

This was a great opportunity for engaging in a sensory activity, listening to the sounds of the microwave and sprinkles and smelling the scrumptious chocolate! It was also a great opportunity for language development and turn-taking, sharing and helping others!

We can’t wait to take them home tonight to have a go at tasting our delicious apples!

Y6 Science

In today’s lesson, year 6 have been looking at balanced healthy diets and that for this we need to have a mixed diet. They have been creating a diet plan for Mrs Sutton.

F2 on a spider hunt

We love following the children’s interests. Some of the children had noticed the cobwebs covered in dew early this morning. So we went on a spider and cobweb hunt around the garden, which led to so much new language, learning and adventure.

Snails!

Freddie found two snails outside today.  He was very excited to watch them and even collected a magnifying glass so he could get a better look at them.

Other children came to look too but Freddie stayed with the snails until they were feeling brave enough to come out of their shells.  He watched them crawl away over the mud and up the wooden wall.  Freddie thought they were may be going to find some lunch!

reflective materials

Year 3 have been looking at light in our first science unit. We discovered that there are many light sources that we use every day including the sun, light bulbs, phones and televisions. We were very surprised to discover that the moon is not a source of light and that it only reflects light from the sun. We decided to see what other materials reflected light and which materials reflected this best. We carried out a fair test on materials including tin foil, card and fabric.

We discovered that the most reflective materials had a smooth surface and that the light reflected brightest from these types of materials.

F1 in wet weather…

The wet weather never stops F1 from having fun!  Yesterday, Florence started her own game, rolling a tyre to see how far it would travel.  It soon became a very popular game and lots of children joined in.  Well done everyone!

F1’s radishes!

In less than a week our radishes have already begun to grow! They are only tiny shoots though, with just a tiny root hidden in the soil. We can’t wait for them to grow even more!
