Autumn Walk!

Year 1 had a fantastic afternoon at Pickering Park looking for signs of Autumn and exploring the great outdoors! We had our very own scavenger hunt and ticked our check list for all the different animals and tree/leaf species we could see and identify! We talked about different types of trees and the size of different leaves. We sketched and observed a variety of different species of tree and talked about why some were bare and some were still ‘evergreen’! We loved joining in with some Forest School games and chants! We took our learning back to the classroom to carry on our tree identification and inspire our very own Autumnal nature area, using all our goodies we had collected on the way!

Exploring Autumn 🍂🍁🍂

The children have been exploring Autumn this week. We have been talking about the changes that happen when the season starts. We listened to ‘Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn’ by Kenard Pak and talked about the story.

The children have made some beautiful leaf print pictures and created fabulous collages using Autumn colours.

The have also been drawing Autumn trees and pumpkins in the garden.

The children loved exploring the textures of the slimy pumpkin and the crunchy leaves.

We have also been learning what the words hibernation and migration mean.

I wonder what other signs of Autumn you might see when you’re out and about.

Little Pumpkins!!!!!

The children loved designing their pumpkin and scooping out all the seeds.

Mr Norton carved out their design and delivered safety talk on using equipment.

Some of our children loved the sensory feeling of scooping out with their hands whilst others chose to scoop out with spoon.

We investigated our pumpkin seeds and compared sizes with other seeds.

PLEASE REMEMBER TO ALWAYS ASK AN ADULT TO HELP YOU CARVE YOUR PUMPKIN!

Wet Chalk Artwork

This week, F2 have been making the most of the wet weather

by experimenting with chalk.

We loved how the colours mixed together when we added more water…

… and we saw how the colours looked brighter when they were wet.

The texture became thick and tacky when we used a brush on the wet chalk…

…and we noticed how wet and dry chalk just looked different,

but most of all, we enjoyed making our own fabulous artwork creations.

Year Four Pitch Challenge

As Scientists, in Year Four, we have been learning about sound. We explored vibrations and how sound is created, how it travels in sound waves, how it the volume can be altered and how we might carry out sound proofing to absorb the sound waves. This week we were given the fiddly challenge of changing the pitch of an elastic band instrument. We could have done with a few extra sets of hands but we enjoyed exploring!

F2 Forest School

F2 enjoyed another Forest School session of mud painting today.

Collecting leaves and herbs and sticking them to our sticks can be a tricky, we had to really concentrate and with a little bit of help we all made terrific mud brushes.

Mixing mud and adding magic colour is fun… the children were amazed at the beautiful colours we made today.

We used our brushes and mud paint to make these fabulous creations!

What do you think of them?

Crazy about David!

This week in Science Year 1 have been learning all about the inspirational David Attenborough and the impact impact he has had on our planet! We loved learning about the places he has travelled- from the cold regions of Antarctica to the rainforests of South America! We wrote a fact file dedicated to David’s important works and read the biography ‘Little People, Big dreams’ based on his life, work and aims for the future! We really loved this lesson and enjoyed talking about big issues and big words like ‘endangered‘ and ‘extinction’. We thought about what those words meant to us an how even as little people we could change them…

F2 Forest School

Today F2 enjoyed their first Forest School activity … Mud Painting!

First we collected mud, leaves and sticks

…we had a sniff of the Rosemary, it smelt beautiful

…next we made our paint brushes

…after that we mixed the mud with washing up liquid, water and brusho.

We made some lovely colours

…then we got to work painting

…look at our wonderful creations!

…finally, we pegged them up to dry.

We all had a fabulous time 🌿🍂🍃🍁

SPORTS RELIEF 2020

For sports relief this year we covered 3 elements to help us get our ‘game on.’ We learnt about the heart and the affects of exercise on the heart. We put our hearts to work during our active mile. We also looked at the body and learnt about how to be healthy. Each class designed and made a healthy meal or snack. We also spoke about our soul, and how we can be calm and happy, for this we did some yoga and a guided meditation.

Please click on the link below to see pictures of the day in each year group. It was a lovely fun day for all year groups and we really did learn a lot in aid of Sports Relief and raised money.
