Away in a manger

This week in music Year 2 are very excited to start thinking about songs we are going to perform in our church Christmas service.

We have begun by appraising and singing ‘Away in a Manger

Year 2 talked about how gentle and soft the music sounded and how our voices needed to be the same. We had to practise the song lots as there are some longer notes we found a little tricky.

We could hear the piano in the music and talked about the different notes it was playing as well as how these notes were soft and soothing.

Away in a Manger made us feel calm.

Boom whackers in F2.

F2 really enjoyed their introduction to the boom whackers this week. They explore the instruments and the different sounds they made. We talked about the different notes each tube made and played some copy games. Mrs Jones beat out a rhythm on her tube then the children had to copy and respond to the rhythm.

Year 5 Clarinet –

Today we were able to learn how to put together the clarinet together. This is vital for our lessons and the more we practice the quicker we will become at setting up our equipment.

Glockenspiel

Year 2 have spent this half term working hard to learn notes on the glockenspiel.

We began the term by understanding how to look after instruments as well as how we play them.

Year 2 discussed how a glockenspiel is a percussion instrument and how each key makes a different sound.

Year 2 are able to play several notes on the glockenspiel including the C, D, E, F and G. We used the notes we know to make simple tunes and had the opportunity of performing these each other.

When we were confident with the notes we composed our own piece of music which we again had the opportunity to perform to each other.

Learning to play the glockenspiels!

During the autumn term the children in Year 1 have been learning to play the glockenspiel.

In this unit we focused on exploring and developing playing skills as well as introducing         the language of music.

We initially introduced the notes E and D and the children identified where these were on the instrument and then took turns to play them in time with the music.

Throughout the term we progressed to learning notes C, D, E, F and used these whilst playing the glockenspiels to a range of music.

Clarinet Lessons!

During our music lesson today, children learnt how to put a clarinet together with the reeds. They then learnt that when the reed is fixed to mouthpiece, the air in the instrument vibrates when you blow into it to create sound. We also learnt how to create controlled sounds by positioning our mouths correctly.

The children are loving our music lessons with Mrs Hall!

Fun Friday

We loved expressing ourselves by singing, dancing and being creative during our Fun Friday session!

We enjoyed our sensory mark making which made us very messy but very happy.

Y3 are learning how to play the recorder!

In year 3 we are learning how to play the recorder. We have all been given our own recorder to look after and use!

This lesson we looked at how to hold the recorder and how to blow so that it makes a nice sound – we quickly learned that if you blow too hard it doesn’t sound that great!

We have been looking at the note ‘b’ and have been learning that a note is a particular musical sound. We found out that notes can represent the pitch and duration of a sound in musical notation – today we looked at crotchets which is worth one bear and minims which are worth two.

After learning all of this new knowledge we then applied it to a piece music called ‘Biker Ben’ where we played the note b on the recorder and followed the music using the notations for the correct beats.

Year 5 Clarinet ‘No Problem’

Year 5 have been working really hard in music today and have been learning how to play the song ‘No problem’. The focus on the song was using the correct form and note playing of the note G making sure to hold the note for the correct length of time.

Head Shoulders Knees and Toes

Can you guess which song Jake is copying the actions to?

Jake demonstrated to his friends in the Hub all the actions to Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes, identifying parts of our bodies.

You can join in and copy too!
