We are musicians

What a musical afternoon we’ve had. We have been using the Boomwhackers again to explore sound and make music.

We discussed the different tubes, thinking about the length, colour and the different notes they made.

We got into colour groups and played our Boomwhackers together.

We copied rhythms and practised stopping and starting.

It was great fun.

Orchestra song

This week in music Year 2 have discovered lots of different instruments through our new song.

Our new song this week is called ‘Orchestra Song’

We began by appraising our new song. Orchestra Song made us feel very relaxed, the rhythm was much slower than our last songs and this made us feel calm.

Listening to the song we heard lots of different instruments names so we had a look at these and talked about the sounds they made. We really liked the oboes and bassoons. These were new instruments to us.

We got to perform our new song to each other at the end of the lesson. We found this a little harder this week as there were so many new names of instruments that we were trying to sing. We really enjoyed finding out about them all though and can’t wait to play some of them when we are older.

YEAR 4 MUSIC – HOW DOES MUSIC CONNECT US WITH OUR PAST

Year 4 this term have been learning the song ‘Looking in the Mirror’ with lyrics that help us to reflect upon not only our own lives but of those of our ancestors and the historic changes that have been made to enable our lives to be a little better today. To accompany this wonderful piece of music, we have been creating a little improvisation with our recorders and playing notes we have learnt in previous Music units of work in our own unique compositions.

Bravo Year 4…Encore!!!

Year 5 Clarinet ‘Long note sound’

In todays clarinet lesson the children were able to increase their note knowledge and added the note Fsharp to their repertoire. They were able to use this note to practice and play the song Long note song.

listen

This week in music year 2 have been looking at rhythms.

We began by appraising our new song ‘Listen’. We liked how the sound of this made us feel. It made us feel full of energy and wanting to join in. We could hear lots of instruments like drums and guitars. We could also hear people clapping rhythms and we could not wait to join in.

We practised our new song and had a go at copying the rhythm with our hands. We practised these in lots of different ways. We had a go as a table, individually, in partners, as boys and girls and also the back of the class and the front.

Some of the rhythms were pretty trick but we kept practising and got really good.

We even got to copy some rhythms with our voices, this was much harder as we had to think about the pace and the tone our voices made.

Exploring Feelings Through Music – How does Music Make the World a Better Place?

In this weeks Music lesson, we listened to a piece of Music called Maple Leaf Rag that was over 100 years old! We said that it made us feel happy and that we wanted to dance and move our bodies to it!

It was composed by Scott Joplin, An American Musician…..

and was to be played on a piano or the pianola which was a self-playing mechanical musical instrument.

We then revised our song, “Music is in me” and accompanied it by improvising on the Glockenspiel using the notes C D E.

Have a listen…

Sparkle in the sun

This week in music Year 2 have been practising and performing the song ‘Sparkle in the Sun’

We began by appraising the piece of music and discussing how it made us feel. It is a ‘happy’ song that mad us all feel like we wanted to get up on our feet.

We could hear lots of different instruments such as pianos, violins, drums and flutes. We think the best instrument we can hear is voices because our voices can make so many different sounds. We like making deep, low sounds. We can feel these sounds in our chests.

We practised Sparkle in the Sun before we had the opportunity to perform to each other. Each table had a chance to perform to the rest of the class.
