Alongside our Football focus in PE this term, we also had the fantastic opportunity to work with Liesel and practice the arts of Yoga and Qigong. Both of these spiritual arts enabled us to focus on both our breathing and meditation techniques, as well as to develop a better understanding of our body posture and movement. From this we were able to learn beneficial relaxation strategies which promote healthy bodies and healthy minds that we can use in every day life. Miss Stewart and Mrs O’Loughlin also enjoyed these relaxation sessions so a HUGE ‘Thank -You!’ goes to Liesel!

This week in RE we discussed why the world is a special place.
We recalled how Hindus believe Brahma created the world and how Christians believe God created the world. We think Hindus and Christians think the world is a special place because of how they believe it was created.
In our class discussions, we also decided the world is a special place for many different reasons.
Some of us thought the world is a special place because it’s where we live. Some also thought it is a special place because there are lots of important things in the world.
This week in music Year 1 have been singing the nursery rhyme ‘London’s Burning’.
We found out the song is about the great fire of London from 1666.
We have found singing in rounds very hard but enjoyed playing about with this song.
We sang in an echo because we noticed each line of the song repeated itself like and echo in a tunnel.
We also had fun making new lyrics up. We made our own verse.
“Hull is calling, Hull is calling
See the Humber bridge, see the Humber bridge
Go to town, go to town”
In Geography this week, Year 2 have been learning about the four countries that make up the United Kingdom. They can now locate these on a map and label the surrounding seas. They have also been learning about the four capital cities.
We have learned that Queen Elizabeth II lives in London and we will be learning more about London next week!
During our Football sessions this term, the Year 3 children’s focus was to learn the skill of dribbling in order to keep control and possession of the ball. With the aim of controlling the ball better, the children built upon the skills of passing the ball with the inside of their foot, stopping and turning directions as well as dribbling with both feet. From this, we then focussed our attention on defending whilst in possession of the ball so as to beat our attacking opponents. We certainly enjoyed our Football sessions and built not only upon our skills but on our teamwork strategies too!

- Using the inside of the foot
- Mud Monstres – Our attacker has been tagged by a defender and so becomes stuck in the mud!!!

Across the week they have explored new vocabulary, identified the rhyme in the poem and learned signifiers for the poem. Today they performed the poem with confidence and lovely expression!
Well done Year 2.

Year 2 have started a new unit in Computing called ‘Questioning’. This week they were learning to use yes or no question to sort information. On Purple Mash they used yes or no questions to find the names of the different avatars.
In Design and Technology this term Year 2 are learning about food technology. First, they investigated different sandwiches. They tasted lots of different combinations to decide which was their favourite.
Then they learned about to be safe when handling food. Their focussed practical task was to learn how to slice, peel and grate.
The next day, they designed and made their own sandwich for a Royal afternoon tea party.
They had lots of fun eating their creations during the afternoon!
