F2 Festival of Light!

Wow! What a busy week F2 have had learning all about and celebrating all things Diwali… The Festival of Lights! We have had so much fun exploring our classroom this week, learning all about the story of the first Diwali ‘Rama and Sita’ and immersing ourselves in typical Diwali traditions and celebrations. We have created our own Mendhi hands, Diva pots, explored traditional spices and their smells! Created Rangoli patterns, dressed in special clothes and jewellery, practised our mark making skills and even had a visit to the library to find out more amazing facts on Diwali traditions and ceremonies!

It has been a very colourful and fun week, and as usual the children have all loved getting stuck in with our fantastic activities and topic! Next week it’s the start of our new book…’You Must Bring a Hat‘ and don’t forget to bring one in…(a hat that is!)

F1’s Stay & Play

A very successful Stay & Play this morning in F1.  Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who were able to join us.  Everybody thoroughly enjoyed joining in with our Remembrance Day activities.

F1 Bonfire Biscuits

We made sparkler biscuits using chocolate fingers inside whilst the other children were building bonfires outside.

.

We had to dip it into the water first and then in the sparkles.

The chocolate melted in the warm water.

They were super yummy.

F1 Explore Bonfire Night

After a good chat about Bonfire Night and how and why we celebrate it, lots of us went outside to play.

We built a huge bonfire out of sticks and then used ‘fire’ coloured paper to set it alight.

We also sat around our fire and toasted marshmallows, which was Richard’s idea.  We loved it!

We then created fantastic, colourful fireworks using chalks and then by using all of our colourful PE equipment too!

Goldilocks and The Three Bears!

Following on from introducing our story last week, ‘Goldilocks and The Three Bears’ , this week we have been learning more signifiers in our Talk for Writing sessions and worked together to create our own story maps!

We talked about the main events and characters and sequenced what happened in order together. We loved creating these story maps as groups, discussing the story and helping each other along the way. We showed good pencil control and did some fabulous annotations of Goldilocks and her curly hair!

This week we will be using these story maps to retell and perform the story to the class and begin to write some initial sounds of words!

‘Hubble Bubble Boil and Trouble!’

It’s been potions galore this morning in F2!

We have been putting those fine motor skills into action, alongside our imaginations, to concoct and create the most magical of potions! Mixing, stirring, pouring, peeling, squeezing and sieving! We used some sweet smelling oranges, lavender, spices and pumpkins to bottle up our creations. We then followed this activity up by writing our ingredients list and describing what our potions could do! Turn you into a Unicorn, jump like a frog… and even disappear!

A lovely morning well spent in the great outdoors…
