F2 Forest School

F2 enjoyed another Forest School session of mud painting today.

Collecting leaves and herbs and sticking them to our sticks can be a tricky, we had to really concentrate and with a little bit of help we all made terrific mud brushes.

Mixing mud and adding magic colour is fun… the children were amazed at the beautiful colours we made today.

We used our brushes and mud paint to make these fabulous creations!

What do you think of them?

…after that we mixed the mud with washing up liquid, water and brusho.

We made some lovely colours

…finally, we pegged them up to dry.

The Muddy Boots Club

Each week, the Muddy Boots club have been tending to our plots. You may have seen them if you use the Anlaby Park Road South entrance. The strawberries are coming along nicely and we hope for another successful yield this year. The peas are beginning to spiral up their canes and the radishes are producing a healthy green leaf.

Gardening

What a super morning we have had in Foundation Stage.

Grandparents and family members have visited us today to help out with gardening. They brought their green-fingers and helped us weed and plant new seeds and flowers. There was also some harvesting of last years potatoes that had been left behind. They did an amazing job and we’re very grateful for their help. Even Mrs Wilkinson and Mrs Reed picked up some good gardening tips. We talked about what the plants and seeds need to grow and made sure we didn’t dig up and of the lovely plants that were already in the ground.

We look forward to harvesting some of the things we planted. Maybe we’ll make a stew with the carrots, onions, potatoes, and herbs we planted today.

The children had a fantastic time and the rest of the class will be doing some more planting in the weeks to come.

Tree Planting Fun

Last week we worked with Woodland Trust to plant trees on our school field. Everyone got to plant their own tree as part of the project and some of our parents even joined in with the fun too! This will eventually create our own forest! It was a bit muddy but we had lots of fun!

Woodland Project Part 2: First Planting

To was a very exciting and historic day for Christopher Pickering as we finally began to plant our woodland. The day started with some of our amazing parents coming down to help. They got to pant some trees with their children which was wonderful and very kindly stayed to help others. Then, throughout the day, children from Y6-Y1 all planted a tree in our woodland areas. Also planted was our orchard near the 5/6 MUGA and a new plantation of oak trees along the back of the field.

Many thanks to staff, parents and children for a lovely day. Special thanks to our Y6 helpers who worked with our Y1 children to help them plant their trees. A thank you Andy and Sarah for your guidance, expertise and patience in helping us with this project!

This is as far as we can progress this year but we will keep you updated over the coming months (and decades!)

Woodland Project Part 1: Pre-planting

This morning saw the start of a new and exciting project to that children will work on over the next few years and hopefully decades: planting a forrest on our school field.

Working with the Woodland Trust and EYMS, we hope to plant a forest of 420 trees on our school field to create a forest school and, in the long term, alleviate flooding on the school field.

This project is a huge undertaking and something that will take years to accomplish. However, things got started today when Andy and Sarah came in to deliver some pre-planting sessions with our Y6 children. The children undertook some geography field work recording the different species of trees on the school grounds, their size and approximate age. They also learnt about seed dispersal and seasonal changes.

KS2 HUB Trip to Pickering Park Community Orchard

We had a lovely morning at Pickering Park Community Orchard. The sun was shining when we were met by Yvette who works at the orchard.

We got to taste three varieties of apple that are grown at the orchard – they were all delicious. We saw all of the bee hives and learnt how important they are in the pollination process and are the reason we have apples every year.

We used ‘Apple Wizards’ to collect all of the fallen apples from the ground and then we got to try the freshly pressed apple juice!

We picked apples from the trees and were allowed to take some home. A fabulous morning and well worth a trip!

KS2 HUB Trip to Country Park

On Wednesday 26th September we went to the Country Park in Hessle for a sensory walk. We found lots of things such as sticks, conkers and lots of colouful leaves. We walked through the quiet, dark wood and thought of lots of adjectives to describe what we could see and how we felt.

We all had a lovely time!

KS2 HUB Fun at Pickering Park

On Wednesday 19th September, the KS2 HUB children went for an adventure to the park and all had a lovely time.

First we went on a nature hunt and collected lots of different leaves, conkers, pine cones and even saw some squirrels running around.

Then we went to the park and played on the equipment and had a snack.

We went on the zip line and played some team building games such as the parachute.
