Staying Safe on Bonfire Night!

We had a very busy day learning all about Guy Fawkes and the reason we celebrate ‘Bonfire Night’.

  •  we displayed excellent teamwork skills collecting sticks and leaves to make our   bonfire
  •  used a range of painting techniques to create bonfire and firework art
  •  wrote some important safety instructions for staying safe on ‘Bonfire Night’
  •  enjoyed making and eating edible sparklers and hot dogs whilst listening to our   themed story ‘Sparks in the Sky’
  •  finished off our day all snuggled up watching a spectacular firework display

Star Writers!

A huge well done to our first ever ‘writers of the week’ in year 6! 3 children were chosen for producing fantastic fictional Mayan explorer stories. They were very pleased with their certificates, stickers and special pencils!

We can’t wait to see who is chosen this week to receive their award in Friday’s assembly!

Harvest Thanks!

The children in the Hub have been celebrating Harvest by making ‘Harvest Creatures’, using fruit and vegetables. They took great pride in displaying their creations outside our Hub entrance and couldn’t wait to show their parents at the end of the day.

We were all very proud of the children for their discussions about all the things they were thankful for. They drew some lovely, detailed pictures and completed some beautiful writing.

Labelling!

What a fun lesson year 1 had labelling things that can be found in our classroom. To make our labels more detailed we used adjectives. Our classroom was covered in sticky notes! Amazing job year 1.

Hot Seating!!!

Year one had a fantastic time hot seating Geronimo the character from our story by David Walliams! We asked him lots of questions about how it felt to not be able to fly and what it’s like living in the Antarctica. Our Geronimo was a super actor and our audience were spectacular! We followed up our hot seating session by using some brilliant adjectives in our work!

The Egyptian Cinderella

The year four pupils have been working hard to show case their story writing skills as we re-told the story of the Egyptian Cinderella from the Pharaoh’s perspective. We were really impressed with the creative content of the stories and the grammar that the children were to apply to this longer piece. Well done Year Four, an amazing start!

The Way Back Home

Year 2 are studying the story ‘The Way Back Home’ by Oliver Jeffers. So far, they have learned signifiers for the story and created their own story maps. Today, they acted out the story and performed to rest of the class. There were some brilliant performances!

Year 5/6 Poetry Slam

The children in year 5/6 have really enjoyed the chance to warm up their writing skills and channel their creativity through writing a range of poems for our poetry slam!

They were then faced with the tricky task of memorising and reciting their poem from memory as they performed it to their classmates.

We were extremely proud of how many children overcame their nerves and performed for their peers, well done year 5/6!

Here’s Enes with his winning performance as voted for by his classmates…

Y2 Star Poetry

Year 2 are studying ‘The Starry Night’ by Vincent Van Gough in Art. They have also used the painting as a stimulus for the Star Poetry unit this week. They have worked together on their own lines for a poem and  used them to create Star Poems. Brilliant job Y2!

World Book Day

We all had a fabulous time celebrating World Book Day last Thursday. World Book Day’s mission this year was to ‘Share a Million Stories’. Therefore we came to school dressed as our favourite book characters to share stories that we love. Have a look at our fantastic costumes below. Can you spot any familiar characters?
