In Year 1 we are learning all about Purple Mash and are learning how to log into it and how to navigate around the site.

It is important to keep your password safe so nobody else can pretend to be you.

We keep our password safe so nobody else can use it.

I keep my password safe because it’s my work and I don’t want anybody else to do it.
Some of us have usernames and passwords at home that we need to get onto games too, so in class we discussed why logging onto something is important to keep our information and details safe.

This morning in Y2 we have been comparing numbers. We revisited the work we did in Y1 by identifying tens and ones and practised counting in 10’s, 2’s and 5’s.
We used a variety of manipulatives to make numbers and compare them using mathematical vocabulary such as greater than and less than. We used stem sentences to explain what we found – 23 is less than 67. We applied our understanding of < > and = to compare numbers too.
We solved reasoned and solved problems thinking about comparison of numbers ! A great maths lesson!
.

This morning in Y2, we thought about things we find in the night sky. We thought of things like the moon, stars and clouds. We thought of adjectives to describe the things we could see and wrote sentences about them.
Grace wrote – The shimmering, bright moon moves slowly across the night sky.
We worked as a group to create collective poems about The Night Sky.
We were pleased with the outcome and performed them to the rest of the class.
In Y1 we are using post-impressionist art work of Claude Monet’s ‘Beach at Pourville’ and Vincent Van Gogh’s ‘Seascape’ as inspiration for our art today.
We used oil pastels to create our own versions of the pictures making sure we used a variety of techniques such as smudging, dashes and used bold colours.
We had some great examples and will be using this work in our next art lesson …
Sloane took smudging to a whole new level! 😂😂
This morning the whole school got to have a go on the climbing wall!
In KS1, we were really lucky because we got to go first!
We arrived outside and the wall looked enormous but we were all very brave and every one of us had a go!
First we were harnessed up and made safe, when it was our turn we were clipped onto the rope and off we went …
Some of us managed to get to the top! We have a fabulous morning!

Today, Y1 were History detectives – we used a range of sources of evidence to find out about George Stephenson, his achievements and why he was nicknamed ‘Father of the Railway.’
We learned that he invented the first locomotive called ‘The Rocket’ and that this changed Britain in the Victorian era as it meant that more people could travel. Holidays by the seaside became more accessible and it meant that those people who previously couldn’t afford to go on holiday could! This changed Britain and the seaside which we are going to learn more about this in other lessons. We all realised that George Stephenson is a significant individual who invented something that has changed our lives today and he is still remembered for the work that he has done.
Lucas said ‘George Stephenson looks like a clever, rich man because he is wearing expensive clothes.’
‘The carts with the people on look very full and the train looks very slow, not like today.’ pointed out Scarlett
‘He must be famous if he is on money’ said Frankie
This week in Y1 we are learning about making equal groups – We know that equal means the same as.
We used paper plates as our groups and put a certain amount of objects into each group, making sure they were equal, we then moved onto drawing groups and the objects. By the end of the lesson we were all very confident with recognising equal and unequal groups and were able to discuss what we could see.
We love to enhance our curriculum, so in Year 1 this term there is a Creative Club with Mrs Yardley where we get to use our Art and Design skills even more.
This week we looked at some of Wassily Kandinsky’ s work and we found out that he was a Russian painter and was born in 1866. After looking at some of his paintings we were shocked that he painted them so long ago as we thought that they looked quite modern.
We looked in particular at ‘Squares with Concentric Circles’ and used it to inspire our own collage based on this painting.
