Representing numbers in Year 2

Year 2 have been focusing on number in Maths. Miss Stathers’ class been learning about the  place value in a number and how they can represent this is different ways.

They have used Numicon to understand  the difference between tens and ones. Super work!

KS1 Show their Hidden Talents

As a ‘Wow Day’ to launch our new topic, ‘What can you show the world?’ KS1 came to school showing their hidden talents. We had lots of different talents ranging from dancing to baseball!

In the morning we spent time learning new talents with Mr Seymour, Miss Farrah, Miss Stockton and Miss Stathers. 

Then in the afternoon we held our own show. It was brilliant fun!

Key Stage 1 get ready for Art in The Park

As part of the Hull City of Culture programme of events, Christopher Pickering Primary School will be hosting an event with Ganton Special School and Bridgeview Whitehouse Sullivan Centre. The event will be held in Pickering Park showcasing the children’s art work and giving the children an opportunity to take part in some land Art.

Local Artist, Michele Davy has spent two days in school preparing art work for the event. Key Stage 1 have focused on Woodland Animals; drawing them and then creating them out of clay.

Year 2 are Researchers

Year 2 are completing the unit ‘We are Researchers’ in Computing this term. As our topic is, ‘What would you find in the deep dark wood?’, we have been researching woodland animals and creating PowerPoint presentations on them. We will post them online when we have finished!

Northern Ballet Workshop with Year 2

As part of Hull City of Culture, Northern Ballet visited Year 2 for the morning. The workshop focused on colour. The children had to paint the room their favourite colour through their dance moves. They then thought about how colours make you feel and moved around the room to express this!

We had a brilliant time!

Year 2 learn to Tell the Time

Year 2 have been learning to tell the time in Maths this week, They have learned about the different hands on a clock and can now read, write and match the time on a clock.

 

Year 2 Instruction Writing

Year 2 have been learning how to write instructions this term.  First of all we looked at the different features of instructions.

 We structured a set of instructions, followed different instructions and had a go at writing our own.

For our Hot Write we planted some beans and then wrote a set of instructions for how to plant beans!

Acting out Little Red Riding Hood

In English in Year 2 our new text is Little Red Riding Hood. We spent the first week getting to know the story using signifiers, story maps and acting out the story. Super acting skills Year 2.
