The Three Billy Goat’s Gruff!

F2 have started their new talk for writing text this week, the traditional tale of…

The Three Billy Goat’s Gruff’!

We came to school to find an amazing bridge had been built in the classroom with a bridge crossing over to a beautiful sweet meadow! The children were all very excited to read the story together and take part in a little performance! The children were brilliant at ‘trip trapping’!!! Unfortunately they bumped into a grumpy angry troll along the way, who was feeling a little hungry for goat! Luckily the Big Billy Goat came to the rescue and saved the day and all the goats (and children!) lived happily ever after!!! This story inspired a lot of our play throughout the morning and the children have loved playing the different roles from the story! We are going to be learning the signifiers for our story over the next few weeks…

Bug House!

A lovely afternoon spent in the F2 garden planting tomato plants, sowing wildflowers seeds and building bug houses! We have kindly been donated lots of tomato plants and the children could not wait to plant these in our quiet sensory garden. We are helping each day by making sure the plants are watered and free of any pests or weeds! We have also created a ‘wildflower patch’ and are hoping to see this grow over the Summer months. This will hopefully encourage lots of bees and butterflies to our garden and we can’t wait to spot the different insects that might come! In preparation for the many insects we hope to spot we have all had a turn this week at building up our bug hotel! This was lots of fun nature hunting for different materials to pack in our bug house and we hope we have made it welcoming to our little insect friends!

Egg-cited! Chick Visitors!

The children in F2 have been very ‘egg-cited’ today to welcome our new visitors for the next few weeks…’The Chicks!’… or ‘Eggs’ at the moment! We are so lucky to have 24 eggs with us, keeping cozy and warm in their comfy incubators. We had a chat about what we think might happen over the next few weeks (20 days) and what changes we might start to see. We also talked about how the eggs will hopefully hatch and how they will begin to grow into one day…chickens! We discussed growth and how we also change just like the eggs and chickens. We also talked for a long time about looking after the eggs/chicks and how to look after animals and take good care of things. I think we are all going to be very good at helping out over the next few weeks and hopefully we will have lots of baby chicks to share with you soon! Stay posted for baby updates…

Spring Walk

This week F2 decided to go on a ‘Spring walk’ in search of all things SPRING! Unfortunately after a lovely warm morning the weather decided to take a some what ‘Winter’ turn in the afternoon… that said… there’s no such thing as bad weather?!! So coats on and hoods up we went on our way to see if we could track down some changes in the great outdoors and spot some signs that Spring was on its way! We had a tick list to give us a little inspiration and spotted some blossom on trees, buds beginning to open on bushes and even heard the sweet sound of birds tweeting amongst the wind and rain!!! We decided it would be a good idea to endeavour on a Spring walk 2 where we could further explore for bugs and other animals emerging for the warmer weather…stay posted…

‘Holi’ The Festival of Colour!

On Wednesday this week Foundation Stage had a fabulous morning learning and celebrating all things ‘Holi’ for the Hindu  festival of colour! The children came to school dressed in bright colours ready for a morning of fun, song and dance! We learnt all about Holi traditions and the meaning of the celebration, welcoming the beginning of Spring and celebrating the triumph of good versus evil! We chalked bright and colourful patterns, had fun splatting paint (recapping previous learning of the famous artist Jackson Pollock!) and even had a go at paint throwing! This was lots of fun! We had so much fun dancing with scarves and materials and listening to traditional Hindu celebrational music! Another “best day” in the bag for the children!!!!

Foundation Stage Hub

The children have made so much progress in the Hub, it has really been a busy term. Lola has enjoyed playing on the trampoline. She  has managed to get the courage to go on the trampoline independently . She did a lot of laughing and jumping.

Connor is now able to put 1 to 20 into the correct order all by himself.

He can now also put the alphabet in the correct order independently.

He loves getting all the jigsaws and putting them all together. He gets so excited when he puts the last piece in. The progress is absolutely amazing.

Elliot enjoyed making his Easter hat. He loved showing all the other Hub children.

Connor has mastered the scooter and can whizz so fast now it’s hard to catch him.

So great to see all the children engaging and joining in together.

This week in F2…

This week in F2, we have continued our story of Jack and the Beanstalk.

In literacy we have been retelling the story using our signifiers (actions used to help tell the story), sequencing the story, describing Jack and the Giant, drawing a story map and some hot seating (one child dresses up as a story character, sits in the special chair, pretending to be them. The other children then ask them questions, such as why they did the things they did and how they felt). They all loved putting on a wig and an outfit and getting into character, pretending to be the Giant, Jack or his Mum.

Maths has been about the numbers 9 and 10… spotting them, writing them, counting them, finding different ways to make them and lots more!

Our topic we learnt all about what plants need to grow and we planted our own magic bean, I wonder if we’ll get any beanstalks growing?

In PE we focused on our bat and ball skills, throwing, catching and taking turns as well as our warm-up and cool down exercises.

We made some beautiful sounds using the boom whackers in music this week, listening carefully to how each one made a different sound.

As always, we have spent lots of time learning and discovering outdoors…we’ve pretended to be Jack climbing the beanstalk on our climbing wall, then escaped the Giant by sliding down the pole! We’ve made potions in the mud kitchen, built castles in the sand, hunted for Giants and much, much more!

It’s been such a busy week!

Our final piece of our artwork inspired by Piet Mondrian

We finished off the term by finalizing our masterpieces and using all of the skills we have learnt over the last few weeks. We have looked at primary colours and how to make them and researched different pieces created by Piet. We loved the block prints and the effect this created. We decided to make our own block prints using electric tape and use our knowledge of primary colours to mix and pour our paints! The children were fantastic at holding their brushes with great skill and trying to keep their paintings within the lines-quite a skill! They all looked fabulous and individual despite the common inspiration! You can see these fabulous pieces showcased in our classroom on our ‘moving art gallery’…it has wheels!!!

Builder P.E!!!

Tuesday P.E this week had to be all about the different houses and homes! We incorporated all the things we have been learning in topic into our P.E lesson and made ‘flats’, ‘caravans’, ‘bungalows’ and ‘terraced’ houses with our bodies! We even had a go at making a street of terraced houses together! This was such a fun game, made even better by the music accompanied ‘Caravan of Love’ by the House Martins!!! The children loved making different shapes, tall and short, with their bodies and joining themselves together working as a team! We finished the session with a cool down activity and some yoga led by Mrs Buss! Our tree poses, downward dogs, child pose and cat cow positions were fantastic!

House Hunting!

As part of our topic ‘Houses and Homes’ F2 have been exploring the different types of houses built, exploring vocabulary like ‘detached’, ‘semi-detached’, ‘bungalow’, ‘flat’, ‘caravan’ and ‘terraced’! The children have become very confident at spotting and naming the different types of houses! We also talked about road safety and how to keep safe crossing the roads with our adults. We spoke about stop, look, listen and think and even spotted some local police officer’s on patrol who helped us to cross safely!  All the children in Foundation had a brilliant morning on our house hunting walk and worked together to tick off the houses on their scavenger list!
