Year Four have just completed their first unit in Maths, where we explored and deepened our understanding of place value and number. We loved learning about Roman Numerals and the numbers that lurk below zero- negative numbers!
Logan loves Maths and challenged himself to calculate his 8 times tables beyond 12, he could talk with confidence about the pattern. Great work Logan!
Olly quickly got to grips with the concept of negative numbers and began to explore subtraction and comparative statements. Super Maths Olly!
Sena made great use of the tools available in class, a place value chart, to extend her understanding of numbers. Fabulous Maths Sena!
The year four pupils have been working hard to show case their story writing skills as we re-told the story of the Egyptian Cinderella from the Pharaoh’s perspective. We were really impressed with the creative content of the stories and the grammar that the children were to apply to this longer piece. Well done Year Four, an amazing start!

Year 4 are having a great time during their coding computing unit! We have been revisiting some of the Y3 work as part of a ‘crash course’ to catch up on any missed skills before attempting more complicated work. Today they were animating their own Egyptian scene working on coding collision events.
Can you predict what will happen in this animation?
During the lockdown partial opening, we finally found time to crack on with our Minecraft ‘Build the School’ project! Here is an update video – it’s looking fantastic, well done children!

For sports relief this year we covered 3 elements to help us get our ‘game on.’ We learnt about the heart and the affects of exercise on the heart. We put our hearts to work during our active mile. We also looked at the body and learnt about how to be healthy. Each class designed and made a healthy meal or snack. We also spoke about our soul, and how we can be calm and happy, for this we did some yoga and a guided meditation.
Please click on the link below to see pictures of the day in each year group. It was a lovely fun day for all year groups and we really did learn a lot in aid of Sports Relief and raised money.
We all had a fabulous time celebrating World Book Day last Thursday. World Book Day’s mission this year was to ‘Share a Million Stories’. Therefore we came to school dressed as our favourite book characters to share stories that we love. Have a look at our fantastic costumes below. Can you spot any familiar characters?
In the afternoon, we split into house teams to have a ‘Share a Story’ session. The teachers shared a story with their house first.
Then, the children shared stories with someone from a different year group! We had a fabulous time sharing our stories!
As part of our ‘Animal including humans’ unit of work, we have been learning all about muscles and how they work. We now know that we need our muscles to be able to move our skeleton. We discovered that our muscles are attached to our bones by tendons and that most muscles work in pairs. As one muscle contracts, the other relaxes and vice versa. We had a great time making a model arm with a bicep and tricep! We could see that as the arm bent, the bicep contracted and as it straightened, the bicep relaxed.
The children in the year 3/4 STEM club were very excited for the first session! They had a great time working in teams to create bridges using only newspaper and masking tape. They loved testing the strength of their bridge with a model car. Some were more successful than others but everyone contributed brilliantly and most importantly they all thoroughly enjoyed the task.
As part of Child Mental Health Week, the children in year 3 have been discussing bravery and what it means to be brave. They loved reading and discussing the story of The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark. They talked about Plop’s journey of personal discovery from a shy, timed and frightened owl to a brave and courageous one. They then began to design their own
characters which will all overcome a
challenge by being brave. By the end of the session, the children were able to say that bravery comes in different shapes and sizes. Being brave means different things to different people. For some it may be asking for help in class, for others’ perhaps learning to swim. Everyone is different and we ALL NEED TO BE BRAVE SOMETIMES!
