los animales

KS1 have been loving our Spanish assemblies. We have been looking at how to pronounce the names of different animals. We noticed that some animal names are similar to the English language but some are very different. For example Un Elaphante looks and sounds similar to our name and pronunciation for Elephant. However, Una Oveja is the name for a sheep which is very different. At the end of our sessions, we love the quiz where we listen to the name of a Spanish animal and tell our partners what animal we think we heard. We can’t wait to develop our language skills.

Making our own stories using levers and sliders!

Our first step of making our story was to first investigate what a slider and a lever is. We used our classroom environment to help us to distinguish the difference between the two. We then had a close look at books using sliders and levers and discussed how it made the story more interesting and fun to read!

It was then time to design our own stories based on our topic of ‘The Poles’. The children designed two different backgrounds and two different characters/objects to be their sliders and levers. They then chose their favourite. When it came to making their stories the children were excellent and looking at their design they chose.

Here are some of the final outcomes!

We then evaluated our stories and discussed what we liked and what we would change if we were to make it again in order to improve our end product.

Year 2 have been using videos and book extracts to find out about Florence Nightingale.

The children really enjoyed finding out about the important changes Florence made to health care and why she is such a famous nurse. This was linked to our learning recent learning about hygiene.

Children were able to find the key facts and share their ideas.

Year 2 have been discussing the importance of Christmas for Christians.

We focussed on the messages that the angels delivered to Mary and the shepherds.

We imagined we were an angel and designed a poster to tell the shepherds all about the birth of Jesus and why it was so important.

The children asked a lot of questions and thought about their own beliefs and shared their understanding of other people’s beliefs.

The Year 2 Christmas Readings and Carol Service.

Today, our Year 2 children performed their Christmas readings and carols at St Nicholas Church.

The children sang and spoke beautifully and enjoyed performing in front of our audience.

A huge thank you to The Reverend Paul Copley and congratulations to all of our brilliant Year 2 children. What a wonderful performance!

Our trip to the Deep!

What a fantastic trip Year 1 had to the Deep!

There were so many exciting animals to look at! Linking with our science topic of ‘animals including humans’ it was a great opportunity to discuss and describe their different body parts and adaptations that help them suit their environment.

As we explored further we came across ‘The Kingdom of ice’ zone which immersed the children into Antarctica. We felt a huge ice wall and we discussed how this might be what an iceberg might feel like. We even got to see some penguins!

One of our favourite parts of the trip was our workshop! We played lots of fun games which helped build on our knowledge of the 7 continents and animals that live in the poles! The children have not stopped talking about all the things we saw!

Year 2 are comparing Hull and Florida in Geography!

Our Year 2 Geographers have been working very hard today. We started by discussing the features of Hull and Florida. We looked at photos and watched videos.

Next, we sorted some photos. We had to decide where we thought the photo and been taken. This generated lots of discussions and our team work was fantastic.

Finally, we described the weather and one physical feature from each place.

Well done Year 2!

Anti- Bullying Week

Year 2 have been celebrating anti-bullying week this week. They started the week by wearing odd socks for odd socks day. Then they looked at the key message ‘One Kind Word’. Finally they made their anti-bullying pledges.

Y2 are Pattern Seekers

In Year 2 this week, they are exploring the big idea ‘Do colourful drinks have more sugar?’

They made a prediction of many sugar cubes each drink contains. Then they counted the amount of sugar in each drink.

Finally, they made their conclusions.
