Flash the tortoise came to spend the day with us in the HUB. His visit generated lots of discussion, with fabulous questions being asked such as “What does he eat?” and “How big will he grow?”. We handled Flash with care and enjoyed making sure that he had enough to eat and drink as well as enough sunlight which is important for healthy shell growth.
As Musicians, we are learning to play the Glockenspiel! Rehearsals are currently underway and we plan to post a video very soon! Watch this space …..
For our computing lessons, this half term in the HUB we are learning about “IT around us“.
This week we explored what a digital device is and looked at how an input was needed to create an output. Brandon was able to model this for us by using a number function machine!
Our first unit this year is Place Value, a really important unit for us to conquer and build upon.
We have been making great use of our place value tools as we explore partitioning, recording numbers in words and finding more/less than a give number.
We have been working on our times table facts and have found some fun songs to dance and sing to that give us an extra bit of practise!
During our topic All About Me, we have been looking closely at our faces and hair colour through our mirrors.
We used our senses to observe different colours and textures to simulate our own hair.
We think we look really handsome.

The Hub children have been exploring the important topic of Online Relationships.
The children worked together to answer questions about which behaviours are safe and which are unsafe whilst online.
The children then discussed why you need to ask permission for some actions you do online in order to keep yourself safe.
We can now give examples of when to ask permission to do something online and explain why this is important.
We had a very interesting discussion today about how religious people treat the world with respect and how we could play our part in caring for the world. Some wonderful talk partners were observed with great idea sharing.

WOW! Following on from our History lesson comparing old and new toys, Evan brought in the most interesting wind up music box with a modern twist.
Evan delivered a wonderful presentation about his little box to our Hub children. He completed our circle time with an amazing question and answering session.
We revisited and demonstrated an understanding of the commutative law of addition today.
We found out that we can change the order of the addends and the sum remains the same.
We played a game, rolling two dice in order to find our addends to complete our sum, demonstrating some wonderful partner work.
