Y4 Gymnastics – Building Bridges!

This afternoon was our first PE session of 2024 and saw Y4 throw themselves – in a control and purposeful way of course – into gymnastics! Our unit ‘bridges’ is about exploring different way we can create gymnastics poses using different points of our bodies on different apparatus. Today we did some group bridges which turned out great! Well done children.

Today we ended the Autumn term with our first ever Santa Run – and what fun it was! Thank you so much to parents who made a fantastic effort to dress up along with children and run the course around our school field. The funds we raised will be put to good use for new outdoor equipment. Merry Christmas!

EFK Kids Cup Qualifier

Tonight our Y56 boys took part in the EFL Kids Cup qualifier event at South Huntley and what a cold night it was! The boys played a round robin against Elloughton, Brough, Airmyn, Anlaby Acre Head and Anlaby Primary. All of the games were very close, with our biggest defeat being 2-0. Overall we finished 4th but ended the night with a great win against Anlaby.

HAS Timed Badminton Championships

This morning, ten of our Y56s headed down to Hull University for the Hull Active School’s Timed Badminton Championships! The children had a great morning playing against teams from Griffin and Eastfield; we even played against ourselves. All of our children who took part are currently playing badminton outside of school so this was a great chance to use their skills to represent the school in a sport they love.

Some fantastic skills on show from our Y5s

A fantastic result for our Y6 team who finished 3rd!

YEAR 5 PE: INVASION – FOOTBALL

This term, Year 5 are revisiting and building upon their previously learnt skills in the beautiful game of Football. This week’s lesson saw the children revisiting and demonstrating the skills of dribbling, passing with the aim of maintaining control of the ball.

From this, we went on to play various ‘3v3v3 and 6v3’ games where both attackers and defenders had to draw upon and utilise the skills and knowledge they have acquired from playing football in previous year groups.

Great resilience, determination, teamwork and respect was shown throughout our lesson today…Well done Year 5C!!!

In P.E this term, Year 5 we have been incorporating both counter balance and tension balances into our Gymnastic routines. With our P.E partner, we built upon and practiced our routine each week using different apparatus.  To add complexity to our balances, we rehearsed different ways to move out of a counter balance to a counter tension balance on both high and low level apparatus.  Using both canon moves (where we transitioned from one move to another individually from our partner) and unison moves (where we transitioned at the same time as our partner), we created routines which incorporated a range of balances.

Here are a few of our complex routines in pictures

Symmetrical and asymmetrical

Year 3 are loving our PE gymnastic unit this term.

We have looked at how to hold poses, what symmetrical and asymmetrical poses are and what points of contact are.

We have shown each week how we can create different poses with extension whilst ensuring we maintain 1 or 2 points of contact as well as using different levels on the equipment to differentiate our movements.

Movement and Yoga in P.E!

F2 are really loving our Tuesday P.E afternoons! We have had so much fun getting to know and explore the big spaces of the hall and dance studio! The last few weeks in P.E we have focused on good listening, attention and following instructions… and also practicing lining up and following leaders!

This week we explored finding a space in the hall and moving in and out of spaces. We listened to some music and thought about whether or not it was fast or slow music, this inspired us to move our bodies! We moved fast and slow and demonstrated brilliant listening skills! We then looked at following a leader and working together as a team! We loved doing this to music!

In the dance studio we loved looking at ourselves in the mirror, pulling lots of faces! We sang some songs- head, shoulders, knees and toes- and played lots of circle games which was lots of fun!

To finish our session we cooled our bodies down by listening to some relaxing music and focused on being still and concentrating on our breathing! The children were amazing at this and loved doing some yoga movement and poses! We tried cat, cow, downward dog, chair pose, flamingo and tree pose!

Y1 – PE

This term, Y1 are focussing on Playing Games and Running.

We have already learnt techniques about running safely and effectively, changing directions, listening to instructions and following rules of the game.

This week in our running game, we had runners and defenders, the aim of the game was for the runners to collect the objects while avoiding the defenders … it was wonderful to see the great team work that was shown by all the children.

A bit of practise…

F1 have been having a bit of practise in readiness for Sports Day next week.  The children have generally listened carefully to the instructions for each race and everyone has had a go.  Well done!  Finger crossed the weather stays dry for Tuesday!
