graffiti art

Year 3 have completed their final piece of art for this term.

They have created some amazing name tags using fabric paint and t shirts.

We spent time looking at all different types of graffiti going back to cave art in the stone age all the way through to work of a local street artist called Dieynaba Sidibe.

We practised making our own tags with various materials including pencils and pastels before we had a go at using fabric paints.

Once we had done lots of practising and were happy with our tags we were able to recreate them on our t shirts.

We used fabric paints and brushes to create our tags and we were all very happy with our completed piece of art.

YEAR 3 MANDARIN WITH LULU AND LING

Today our talented Year 3 children came together to rehearse and perform all of the songs they have learnt with Lulu and Ling during our weekly Mandarin Music lessons.  Over this last term, the children have learnt 6 songs in the wonderful Mandarin Chinese language of which 3 of these we will be performing in our upcoming ‘Chinese Whispers’ concert at the University of Hull’s Middleton Hall next term.

Below are just a few snippets of our wonderful singing and performing talents.

A familiar tune…Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes!

We have learnt to sing a song about one of the Chinese Written Characters to describe the strokes it is made up from to the melody of ‘Do-Re-Mi’ from the ‘Sound of Music’…

We have also learnt a song about ‘Springtime’ accompanied by actions…

We are all super proud of ourselves, and of each other, and cannot wait to perform for our audience at the ‘Chinese Whispers’ concert!  Learning a new language through music has enabled us to absorb and retain a skill which we will be able to draw upon and share with others. Thank-you Lulu and Ling for this wonderful opportunity that you have provided us with!

Y4 Tennis – Final Week

This afternoon was Y4’s final week of tennis! Mr Morgan’s class put everything into action which they had learned over the last 6 weeks into lots of singles games. 6 ‘central’ courts were set up with random pairings playing head to head for 2minutes at a time. Around the central courts, rally stations were set up. By the end of the hour, over 180 individual games had been played! Well done for working so hard over the last half term, it was great to see everything come together today.

The future of Wimbledon?

Autumn and Hannah battling it out.

Freddie demonstrating an excellent backhand return and recover.

Y4 Coin Purses

Today was Y4’s make day for this term’s DT project. Children started the day by making paper patterns from their designs. These were transferred onto their fabric which was then carefully cut out and pinned in place. Children then sewed their pieces together using a range of stitches including running stitch, backstitch, overstitch and the challenging blanket stitch! Finally, children added embellishments and fastenings to their purses.

We are super proud of the products they have created! There is such a variety of styles, shapes, fabrics and fastenings. Well done Y4!

Crime and Punishment end of unit

Year 6 have worked incredibly hard studying British crime and punishment through the ages within our history lessons this term. We have covered so many time periods, including Anglo-saxon and Vikings, Normans, Tudors, Victorians, WW2 Britain and modern day Britain.

We have really developed our enquiry skills by studying a range of primary and secondary sources of evidence and carrying out independent research.

As we have now finished our history unit of work, we competed in a Kahoot! quiz to check how much we had remembered from this term and then completed a ‘double page spread’ to showcase our knowledge.

The top scorers on Kahoot! along with the 3 of the most impressive double page spreads won themselves an Easter egg for their great efforts! Well done Y6.

Year 6 Science Exploring Circuits

Previous learning has taught the children a circuit always starts with a battery (a cell) . A flow of electricity moves from the positive pole to the negative pole of the battery. The flow is pushed by the battery, through the wires to the other components in the circuit. This makes a complete electrical circuit.

The first challenge was to create a simple circuit…

We made a simple circuit using wires, a battery and a bulb…

Then the all important question..

How can we increase the brightness of the bulb ?

Time to put your scientific heads on!!! Lots of discussion; lots of hypothising, ideas and theories began to develop.Obviously, as every scientist knows, these ideas and theories need to be tested .

Then the light bulb moment !!!

By increasing the voltage we also increased the brightness of the bulb….

In the original circuit we had a total of 3V…we increased the voltage to 6V. We discovered the greater the voltage the brighter the bulb.

The greater the voltage the brighter the bulb

Then an extra challenge.

How can we make a switch out of foil and cardboard,  which will open and close so we are able to switch the bulb on and off?

We created a switch , which would open and close. We knew foil would conduct electricity. We connected the wires to each end of the foil to create a complete circuit.

Well done girls!!!

Healthy Choices!

We have loved giving out stickers to students who are eating their veg at lunch as part of the Eat Them to Defeat Them Campaign. It has been wonderful to see that so many families with the CPPS community are supporting the project at home too, rewarding their children for eating vegetables and making healthy choices at home. “You’re going down peas!”

yorkshire water workshop

Year 3 were very luck to take part in a Yorkshire water workshop this week.

We got to find out lots about how water reaches our home.

Did you know all the water in the world has been here since the world began, there is no new water!

We got to see how water is taken from reservoirs and the process it takes through the water treatment works.

We found out lots of information about what we can put in the toilet and what we shouldn’t put in. We saw how toilet paper breaks down in the water but baby wipes stayed the same. Things like baby wipes can get stuck in pipes and cause them to get blocked. This could then cause a burst pipe because water is very strong.

We also found out lots of ways we can save water as there isn’t always enough. We do things like turn taps off when we are brushing our teeth, taking a shower instead of a bath and water flowers with water we wash our pots with. It is really important to save water because in the summer lots of water gets used and the sun soaks it up too.

Y2 Plant Trees

Year 2 have had a fabulous afternoon planting trees on the school field this afternoon. We each planted a tree. We planted them alongside a bamboo cane to ensure they keep their shape. On top of the tree, we placed a protective cylinder to ensure they do not get damaged. We can’t wait to watch them grow!

YEAR 4 – BRINGING US TOGETHER

We in Year 4 are enjoying getting to grips with our new song for this term ‘Bringing Us Together’.  It is a catchy tune with lyrics that both celebrate and encourage everyone around the world coming together through a shared  joy and love of music.

As musicians, we have been revisiting and practicing the notes C, A and G on the recorder so that we can accompany and perform the chorus of the song.  Below is our first practice without the music…

Whilst we were quite pleased with our first performance, we all wanted to polish up on our musical talents before playing along with the music.

A great performance we are sure you will agree, however we aim to improve through practice over the next few weeks so please stay tuned!

Some of our peers were brave enough to do a solo performance of the chorus today too…

Brave and Encore Year 4…our love of music is certainly ‘Bringing Us Together’ through our song this term!
