This week in F2…

In literacy we continued with the story of the 3 B

illy goats, but this time we got imaginative and innovated the story.  The goats changed to pigs and the troll turned into a scary dragon! We had great fun acting out our new story, and then used our phonic knowledge to write some fabulous sentences.

In maths we focused more on number bonds to 5 and 10, thinking of all the different ways to make these numbers. We’ve also sang number songs, our favourites are ’10 fat sausages’ where we need to take away numbers and ‘1 potato, 2 potato’ where we need to add

numbers.

In art we used our knowledge of paint mixing and got creative, painting our own concentric circles inspired by Kandinsky… they all looked truly amazing and individual.

In PE we continued with our circuit training. The children thoroughly enjoyed last week, so this week we invited Mrs. Marson to join us, and she did! After a good warm-up we had 60 seconds at each station… star jumps, burpees, walking lunges, step ups and planks… we all worked so hard, and then enjoyed a much needed cool down.

On Thursday Purple Pig Farm came to visit…we were all so excited! We saw a calf, sheep, pigs, rabbits and a 6 day old goat called Dora. We even got to hold a chick, which we all loved.

On Friday we all had ‘Freedom Friday’ as a reward for having the highest attendance of the week (Mrs. Buss/Miss Carrick’s class with 99%, amazing!) we get to wear non-uniform and have a flapjack treat… yummy!

We have also enjoyed our wonderful outdoor area this week … we’ve used tubes and pipes to make fantastic waterways, made sandcastles to keep the troll away, cooked delicious snacks for the goats in our mud kitchen and developed our physical strength on our climbing wall and pole…we love exploring and learning outside!

We hope you all have a happy Bank Holiday Weekend, we’ll see you back at school on Tuesday 6th May.

Library afternoon!

F2 had a lovely afternoon listening to stories and looking at books in our beautiful library!

We love our sessions in the library and are getting very good at taking care of books and using our library voices!

There are lots of interesting non-fiction and fiction books and the children especially liked ‘The little people big dreams’ collection!

Kandinsky!

This term we have a new artist inspiration Wassily Kandinsky! We have learnt all about who Wassily was (he was a teacher at first!) and how he loved to listen to music whilst he got creative! His wonderful intrinsic circles inspired us to do some colour mixing, learning how to make up our own paints! And we loved creating colourful circles and especially enjoyed doing this to music! Lots of us said that we would like to go to art school as we loved painting and making colours! We chatted a lot about the colours we were using and how these colours made us feel! Sometimes colours can make you feel happy or sad or represent different things… like love or nature! Our paintings are so fabulous we have made our very own Kandinsky display!

Innovating the story!

Over the last few weeks F2 have been learning the story of ‘The Three Billy Goat’s Gruff!’ We have loved acting out the story and performing it to each other using our talk for writing signifiers! We are now very familiar with how traditional tales start and end and some of the vocabulary used! We have created some amazing story maps, wanted posters and sentence strips! We also had a visit from the troll himself and did some fabulous hot seating, asking lots of interesting questions!

This week (because we know the story so well!) we decided to mix it up a bit and change some parts of the story! Mrs Buss used our tales toolkit basket to help us and we had so much fun playing with different characters and different problems! In the end we decided to change the three goats to pigs and change the problem of a troll to a… dragon! The children loved performing the story again, using the same vocabulary but with different characters! We have created some amazing writing from this and it has inspired us in our play to make up our own versions!!!

This week in F2, we have continued our story, The 3 Billy Goats Gruff.

In literacy we have been retelling the story using our signifiers, while discussing the beginning, middle, end, problem, journey and solution of the story. We also thought of words to describe that terrible troll and used our ‘fred fingers’ to pinch the sounds to help us write:-

‘I can see a bad troll’, ‘Push the troll off’ and ‘It is bad grass’.

In maths we have continued exploring teen numbers and number bonds to ten as well as creating patterns and writing number sentences in our maths area.

In preparation for Purple Pig Farm visiting us next week, we looked at the differences between farm life and our own lives.

We have also been carefully watching our eggs, we can’t wait for them to hatch!

On Wednesday it was ‘Beep, beep day’ and the children really impressed us with their knowledge of road safety.  We took a walk in the local area, found a zebra crossing and used ‘stop, look, listen, think’ to cross the road safely.

In art we enjoyed exploring mixing primary colours to make new ones, red and yellow to make orange, blue and yellow to make green and that mixing red and blue makes purple. We also discovered that by adding white, we can make lots of different tones of colours, we had great fun!
