Spring has Sprung!!!

Spring has definitely arrived in F2 today!

With the sunshine arriving we all headed outside to crack on with some Spring cleaning! Lots of washing, cleaning, digging and pruning of the flowers!

We have been very busy bees tidying our wonderful outdoor area and looking for signs that Spring has arrived and the season has changed!

We have enjoyed learning all about Spring…a time of growth and colour… and enjoying some ‘Spring time’ Easter treats… hot cross buns, after learning the song Hot Cross Buns!!!

Jack and the Beanstalk!

What a wonderful week F2 have had continuing with the story of Jack and the Beanstalk!

This week the beanstalk in our classroom seemed to grow even larger, reaching our classroom ceiling!!!

We found some HUGE shoes which can only belong to the GIANT as we tried them and they were much too big for us!

We have loved pretending to be the giant and answer lots of questions which we discussed together. The children played the part very well and loved our hot-seating activity! This inspired our writing and we thought of lots of good adjectives to use to describe the giant!

With lots of adventures climbing beanstalks and painting endless and endless giant leaves and beans we have had a fantastic week!

Splash Splosh!

We couldn’t have had a ‘water day’ in F1 without splashing in puddles!  Or in our case, splashing in water trays.  Some of our children, who have been unsure about donning waterproofs and wellies in the past, were brave enough to give it a try.  And what fun they had…

Other were slightly more subdued…

Water day in F1

As part of our study of We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, we have had a ‘water’ day today. Some of the children started their morning listening to a beautiful piece of music and watching a river flow. The marks they made on their paper was inspired by what they were listening to and watching. I think you’ll agree that these three pieces of work show what the children were thinking and feeling beautifully. Well done Ella, Vinnie and Elliot!
Please click on the links. Watch the river (with the sound turned off) and listen to the music. See what you think!

New car track…

Our new ‘sticky’ car track has been very popular today. The children have worked well as a team, creating a track out of the different shapes pieces, then using the vehicles to play imaginative games.

Piet Mondrian!

F2 have taken inspiration from the famous artist Piet Mondrian this week, creating their very own abstract pieces of work!

We researched and discovered lots about the famous Dutch artist and looked closely at the colours and shapes he used in his artwork!

We loved his use of squares and rectangles and how he focused a lot on primary colours!

We had great fun cutting shapes and making our very own Mondrian pieces!

They look magnificent displayed around our classroom and art area!!!

Lunar New Year!

F2 had a wonderful time celebrating and learning all about the Lunar New Year!

We arrived to school wearing the lucky colour red and learnt that this year is the year of the snake!

We read the old traditional Chinese story of ‘The Great Race’ and how people all over the world celebrate the Lunar New Year with traditional festivities!

We had a marvelous time exploring traditional Chinese dancing and music and made our own decorations- lantern making and mark making Chinese symbols!

It was a great day for keeping our fingers busy as we practiced our cutting skills and eating with chopsticks at the lucky red Chinese cafe! Here we tasted some yummy traditional Chinese food which allowed us to use our senses to smell, touch and taste a variety of culinary delights- noodles, prawn crackers, fortune cookies, rice and sweet chilli sauce!
