Autumn Trees!

This afternoon during our curriculum time the children explored Autumnal colours and manipulating paint with their hands and tools! We have been spending a lot of time in our outside cabin looking for signs of Autumn and the changes in the season, exploring the leaves and colours! Today we decided to paint our own Autumn tree, using the colours we had spotted from our nature expeditions!

The children loved creating trunks and branches with a brush, working on their fine motor skills and loved getting their fingers and hands messy for a sensory experience!

Year 6 Art

This week the year 6’s were thrilled to be combining their work in art to create their very own Day of the Dead tattoos. They looked amazing. Sorry parents for the scrubbing required to take them off!

Kites in F1

In our current story ‘Titch’ the big brother and sister both have a kite.

We thought we’d have a go at making our own kites.  The children had to decorate their cut out shape, then cut a piece of ribbon for the tail, stick it in the right place then add a string to hold on to too.

Then they were ready to go!

Roo told me that we needed to wind to make our kites fly!  Well done Roo!

Then later on, instead of doing our Write Dance exercises, we changed it to Kite Dance!  Who would have thought that flying kites could help us develop our handwriting in the future!

Y6 art

In today’s lesson the children looked at creating flags to celebrate the Day of the Dead festival. They were able to create silhouetted skull designs and are aiming to create a bunting for the classroom.

Goldilocks and the three bears in f2

What a fantastic start to our new book this week. The children have been really engaged in the new topic and exploring the different areas in the classroom. They have been learning and retelling the story, roleplaying the characters and creating art with a Goldilocks theme. It’s been great to see how much everyone has enjoyed the new book and really immersed themselves in the topic.

F2 Owl Babies

The children have loved exploring the story of Owl Babies. We have learnt the story and actions to help us with this. We sequenced the story and talked about the beginning, middle and end. We have been exploring Owl activities and pretending to be owls. We made feather crowns to help us to pretend to be owls and used leaves to make an owl collage.

We finished the exploration of the story by changing the story. Miss Carrick’s class changed the owls to foxes and Mrs Wilkinson’s class changed the owls to hedgehogs.

F1’s bears

We have started painting our bears today.  Everyone had to start with a circle shape but they also had to think carefully about what sized circle they needed, depending on whether they were painting Daddy Bear (large), Mummy Bear (medium sized) or Baby Bear (small).  Autumn told me her circle was, “large” because she was painting “Daddy Bear”.  Well done Autumn!

F1 Self-portraits

Our self-portraits have been coming along nicely.  The children had a good look at themselves in the mirror first so they could see what their face looked like.  Everyone tried really hard to start off with a big circle.  Well done everyone!

Wassily Kandinsky!

This week F2 have enjoyed learning all about the famous Russian artist…

‘Wassily Kandinsky’

…and have used his work to inspire some of their own fabulous pieces of art!

We have learnt lots about Wassily himself and have enjoyed exploring some of his most famous pieces, looking at the shapes he used and the colours!

We explored how different colours make us feel and how we can mix colours together to create new ones, talking about the primary colours and their importance!

Here are a few pictures of the children getting inspired and busy with their intrinsic circle designs, carefully mixing their own colours and creating beautiful abstract art!!!
