EFK Kids Cup Qualifier

Tonight our Y56 boys took part in the EFL Kids Cup qualifier event at South Huntley and what a cold night it was! The boys played a round robin against Elloughton, Brough, Airmyn, Anlaby Acre Head and Anlaby Primary. All of the games were very close, with our biggest defeat being 2-0. Overall we finished 4th but ended the night with a great win against Anlaby.

HAS Timed Badminton Championships

This morning, ten of our Y56s headed down to Hull University for the Hull Active School’s Timed Badminton Championships! The children had a great morning playing against teams from Griffin and Eastfield; we even played against ourselves. All of our children who took part are currently playing badminton outside of school so this was a great chance to use their skills to represent the school in a sport they love.

Some fantastic skills on show from our Y5s

A fantastic result for our Y6 team who finished 3rd!

Today was our last history enquiry of the term which was all about the end of Roman Britain. After looking why and when the Romans came to Britain, children today learned about the numerous contributing factors which brought this important period of British history to an end.

Children worked in groups to present their information, centred around a map of Britain.

Iinvasions from the Picts, Scots, Saxons, Irish. Retreat of the Roman Army. Emperor Honorious telling Britons “You’re on your own!” – all of these eventually brought the Romans’ time to and end.

Y4 Architectural Drawing Trip

Today we ended this term’s art unit with a trip into the city centre to draw some of Hull’s buildings. In particular, we focussed on buildings which had common features of Roman architecture like pillars, vaults, columns, arches and domes.

The sun was shining and children had a fabulous couple of hours studying and sketching these wonderful buildings.

Hymers Invitational Cup

What a great day of football we’ve had! Today our U11s boys football team attended the Hymers College Invitational Cup. This was a one day tournament with the boys playing a league in the morning and a knockout cup in the afternoon. After a slow start, the boys found some form in the morning and finished in the top for of their group, progressing to the cup in the afternoon. Unfortunately, the afternoon proved very tricky and we were sadly knocked out.

Overall, the boys played ten games which were all played in the right spirit and excellent sporting values were demonstrated throughout.

Well done boys, we’re very proud of your efforts.

U11s Cup Team (L-R): Parker O, Kye S, Billy B, Harry Y, Cohen O, Max W, Buddy-Lee J, Farai G (c) and Archie C.

KCOM Online Primary School Chess Competition!

This week, our chess league got under way with games against New Pasture Primary and Reedness Primary School. Our children played two games (black and white) against opposing players over the internet! We’ve had some good results so far – league updates to follow.

Cael, Burak and Rebecca mid-game against New Pasture Primary.

Our games are being played online via a website called Lichess.

Y4 D&T ‘Make day’

Wow! What a busy day we have had in Y4. Previously, children have investigated the features of different coin purses, practised various ways of stitching fabric together and have designed their own purse. Today they finally got to make the product. Children worked brilliantly throughout the day on their sewing pieces and it was great to see so much thought, care and attention going into their work – the end results were amazing. Well done Y4!

Super proud of their work: Scarlotte, Harvey, Lennie and Betsy.

A wide range of fabrics and designs were used.

Jacob focusing very hard on getting his stitches neat but secure.

The blanket stitch was tricky, but children showed real determination!

KS1 Girls Football Festival

Today, 8 of our KS1 girls have attended a fabulous football festival at the Tigers Trust Arena. The festival was organised by the FA with the aim of getting more girls interested in football. The girls took part in a range of activities all themed around the Disney film ‘Frozen’.
The girls had a fantastic time and were a credit to the school. Well done!

3…2…1…DODGEBALL!

Tonight it was the turn of our Y56 children to attend a dodgeball festival at Sirius Academy West. The competition was being hosted by Hull Active Schools with the objective of promoting three key sporting values – determination, teamwork and honesty. In order to receive a certificate, children had to demonstrate these values and complete a sticker chart. Well done to all of our children to achieved this and had a brilliant time! What a fab end to World Book Day.

An initial briefing from Mr Sherwood before the fixtures started.

Rubin ready for battle!

Molly and Mia working together to get the other team out.

Our World Book Day themed teams: The Wimpy Kids, The Giant Peaches, Oompah Loompahs, Dumbledore’s Army, The Baddies and The Gangster Grannies.

This afternoon, Year 4 have started their coding unit in computing lessons. They were tasked with writing basic programs and snippets of code on ‘Turtle Academy’ to create simple shapes and number and what a fantastic job they did!

We can’t wait for the next lesson when we’ll be exploring loop functions and creating interesting shapes and patters!

Demi worked in a systematic way to draw her number, create the code and then simply it into its most efficient terms! Well done, Demi!
