This week Year 3/4 have been discovering what lies beneath the crust of the Earth. We opened a model to discover that the Earth is made up of layers.

We then created our own model including the inner core, outer core, mantle and crust.

Year 3/4 have been learning about British artist Nick Rowland. Using his work as inspiration, they experimented with pastels and paint to create a piece of volcano artwork. First of all they created a night time scene using oil pastels. Then they used a splatter paint technique to create the lava of the volcano.

The results were amazing and our new display is breathtaking.
To launch our new topic, Year 3/4 have had a Wow day today. Lab Rascals came in to do a science workshop with us making dry ice volcanoes. The children were amazed at the results and have made some fantastic memories. What a fabulous day at school!
Our new topic is ‘Why isn’t there a volcano in Hull?’ Over the Christmas holidays we have immersed our pod into a volcanic mountain. The children have loved exploring their new learning environment and we can’t wait to start learning about the new topic!
We have thoroughly enjoyed our Christmas Jumper day today. We had a fabulous Christmas Dinner with all of the teachers. It was delicious!
Year 3 have been learning about multiplication and division over the last few weeks in Maths. They have learned to count in 3s, 4s and 8s and learned to apply this knowledge when working out multiplication and division calculations.
Here they are investigating the pattern with numbers that can be divided by 3:
Last week we worked with Woodland Trust to plant trees on our school field. Everyone got to plant their own tree as part of the project and some of our parents even joined in with the fun too! This will eventually create our own forest! It was a bit muddy but we had lots of fun!
The children in Y3/4 had a fabulous day raising money for Children in Need. We came to school in Non-Uniform and brought a donation. In the morning, we did Pudsey themed Maths and English lessons. In the afternoon, we got to on a bouncy castle, have a disco and eat a bun! It was lots of fun raising money for a good cause!

Year 3/4 love Times Table Rockstars! We have had some amazing battles today in our lunchtime club today! The boys won this week, can the girls win next week?
Year 3 have been using Base 10 to help them understand the concept of column addition and subtraction. It has really helped us to understand the relationship between hundreds, tens and ones.
