Day of the Dead day!

Year 6 are enjoying their Day of the Dead WOW day!

This morning, the children are taking part in different activities: making pan de muertos (a traditional Mexican bread), and creating their very own water colour art with sugar skulls and all things Day of the Dead!

truffle making

In our DT unit, Year 6 have been learning about chocolate, from bean to bar. Our final piece was to design and make their very own chocolate truffles! The children chose their own chocolate, flavourings and toppings to cook their truffles. They did amazingly!

The Highway Man

In our new English unit, The Highway Man by Alfred Noyes, year 6 have been analysing the  vocabulary within the poem and using their inference skills to understand the plot. They have also started to create their own story map of the narrative poem!

Music with Mrs Stallard

Year 6 have started their music lessons for this half-term with Mrs Stallard. In today’s lesson, the children created melody using the glockenspiels.

What an amazing job they did!

English Debate

Within our English unit, we are focusing on persuasive letters. Yesterday, we had a whole class debate regarding a school gym being built at Christopher Pickering. The class did amazingly with rebutting their arguments!

final designs

Our final stage of our DT learning journey: making bread.

Today the children made their ‘bread in a bag’ by working through a range of instructions. They then moulded their mixture to fit with their final designs, added their desired toppings, and ended up with delicious bread that is fit for an Anglo-Saxon and Viking feast!

The pod smelt good enough to eat!

Bread investigation

In our DT unit, year 5 are investigating, designing and making bread that is fit for an Anglo-Saxon feast.

In today’s lesson, the children watched a demonstration of how bread is made. Miss Mead showed the children the step-by-step process that must be followed to create delicious bread!

The children were extremely enthusiastic and loved to help.

British Science Week

Miss Mead’s class had such a brilliant time at Sirius Academy for British Science Week! We experimented with different chemicals to see how fireworks are created.
