Year 2 have been discussing the importance of Christmas for Christians.

We focussed on the messages that the angels delivered to Mary and the shepherds.

We imagined we were an angel and designed a poster to tell the shepherds all about the birth of Jesus and why it was so important.

The children asked a lot of questions and thought about their own beliefs and shared their understanding of other people’s beliefs.

The Year 2 Christmas Readings and Carol Service.

Today, our Year 2 children performed their Christmas readings and carols at St Nicholas Church.

A huge thank you to The Reverend Paul Copley and congratulations to all of our brilliant Year 2 children. What a wonderful performance!

Year 2 are comparing Hull and Florida in Geography!

Our Year 2 Geographers have been working very hard today. We started by discussing the features of Hull and Florida. We looked at photos and watched videos.

Next, we sorted some photos. We had to decide where we thought the photo and been taken. This generated lots of discussions and our team work was fantastic.

Finally, we described the weather and one physical feature from each place.

Well done Year 2!

Looking at Earth from Space in Year 2!

We have been looking at aerial photos of the physical features of Earth in Year 2 today. We found mountains, rivers, lakes, cities, deserts and islands. We used Digimaps for Schools to zoom in and out of various parts of the world and look at aerial views. Finally, we matched aerial photos to photos taken from Earth to compare the features.

Year 2 are learning about promises within religion.

We started by discussing promises we might make to our friends and family. Next, we discussed the promises made by people of different faiths.

We watched videos and looked at photographs of Christian weddings and Baptisms to help us understand the promises that Christians make during these ceremonies.

Finally, we acted out a Baptism and a wedding. We had great fun and developed a fabulous understanding of the promises Christians make.

Superb Class Charter posters in Year 2

Year 2 have been discussing their rights and responsibilities in PSHE. We have thought about rewards and consequences and how we can all work together to ensure we all feel safe and learn as much as we can. Some of our posters will be displayed in the classroom. A great team effort. Well done Year 2!

Digital footprints in Year 2!

Year 2 have been learning about digital footprints and how important it is to be safe online. We shared our ideas about what we should and could share online and how that information was stored before creating posters to help other children.

We have been learning how people of different faiths show their religion through actions and objects. We looked at some of the objects, watched some videos of children from the Sikh Faith and the Christian Faith then produced drawings to showcase our understanding. Another great RE lesson with lots of discussion. Well done Year 2!

We have some budding historians in Year 2!

We have been learning about Christopher Columbus as part of our topic, ‘Explorers of the Sea.”

First, we looked at some sources of evidence.

We looked at diary entries, paintings and drawings.

Next, we ordered some information on a timeline.

Finally, we wrote our own timelines using the evidence and resources we had looked at.

Fantastic discussions during PSHE in Year 2!

This week, Year 2 have been discussing secrets.

We talked about which secrets we should keep and which secrets we shouldn’t keep.

We shared our ideas with our friends.

We thought of lots of secrets that we were happy to keep, such as birthday surprises and parties.

Then, we talked about secrets we shouldn’t keep. Year 2 thought they should tell an adult if they knew a secret about somebody being unkind or mean.

Finally, we drew some pictures to represent our ideas and completed to some sentences.
