Wassily Kandinsky!

This week F2 have enjoyed learning all about the famous Russian artist…

‘Wassily Kandinsky’

…and have used his work to inspire some of their own fabulous pieces of art!

We have learnt lots about Wassily himself and have enjoyed exploring some of his most famous pieces, looking at the shapes he used and the colours!

We explored how different colours make us feel and how we can mix colours together to create new ones, talking about the primary colours and their importance!

Here are a few pictures of the children getting inspired and busy with their intrinsic circle designs, carefully mixing their own colours and creating beautiful abstract art!!!

Our paintings are so fabulous we have made our very own Kandinsky display!

Spring has sprung!!!

It has been raining blossom today in F2!

The children have loved getting in the garden more as the weather starts to feel warmer!

We have noticed lots of spring changes around us like our lovely blossom tree which had grown over the Easter Holidays bringing us a lovely surprise.

We have also noticed lots of nature around us waking up and have been enjoying looking for minibeasts.

We have enjoyed learning all about Spring…a time of growth and colour!!

Raining Blossom!!

Easter Bonnet Parade!

BIG thank you to parents for all your help and support with the AMAZING Easter bonnets! The children looked fabulous and loved showcasing them to their friends and especially to you in their Easter Parade!

The children were all fantastic and loved dancing and strutting their stuff, parading their fabulous hats for everyone to see! We had some amazing creations… from pirate rabbit’s on boats, to Easter tiara’s! They were all fabulous!!!

Thank you for your continued support, what a lovely afternoon we had showcasing them off on the stage!

Happy Easter!

Oh… and check out some of  our amazing poses below…

Meet our babies!!

F2 have been over the moon this week that their little tiny eggs have FINALLY HATCHED! We have welcomed into the world four beautiful baby chicks, all different colours and all with very different personalities!

It has been amazing to watch these babies hatch and to care for them as they have grown. Today we got to all have a hold for the first time, learning how to hold, look after and take care of these little tiny delicate creatures! We have learnt a lot about chickens the past few weeks and the life-cycle of egg to chick! We have had deep discussions about how to look after all living things in the world and how animals and insects are so important and need us to be gentle and kind. We have loved the warm and fluffy cuddles this afternoon and I know we will all be very sad to see them go when it’s time to go back to their farm…

Tad!

F2 have loved reading the story ‘Tad’ by Benji Davies!!!

This story has inspired us to explore the lifecycle of a Frog, discussing how Tad starts his journey and where he ends up!

We have learnt lots of new key vocabulary, such as ‘frog spawn’ ‘tadpole’ ‘froglet’ and ‘frog’… and discussed how the life cycle continues and goes round and round.

Mrs Wilkinson brought in some pretend frog spawn- chia seeds- we added water and mixed the gloopy mixture together to resemble real life frog spawn!

The children had a great time feeling and describing the spawn- describing it as “gooey’ “wet” “thick” and “gloopy”!

We had a great time mark making and drawing our own life cycles and could confidently talk about the process and change from frog spawn to frog!

Growing cress!

Today we planted some cress seeds. First, we put damp cotton wool in a small container. Then we sprinkled the tiny cress seeds on top and watered them carefully. We placed the container on the windowsill so the seeds could get sunlight.

Over the next few days we watched the seeds grow into little green shoots. We were very excited to see how quickly cress grows. We learned that plants need water, light and care to grow.

Foundation Stage are so excited to take their cress plants home to taste!

World Book Day 2026!

We had a lovely time celebrating World Book Day. The children came dressed as their favourite book characters and enjoyed sharing stories together. We talked about our favourite books and took part in fun reading activities. What a wonderful day celebrating our love of books!

Hot Cross Buns!!!

Spring is the perfect time for little learners to explore new traditions, and this week we had so much fun discovering Hot Cross Buns. After singing the well-loved rhyme, the children  noticed the words “one a penny, two a penny” and began wondering what hot cross buns are made of and why they’re special. Their curiosity gave us the perfect opportunity to dive deeper.

We looked closely at the ingredients, soft flour, bumpy raisins, and the warm smell of mixed spice.

We talked about the cross on top and explored its meaning for some families at Easter.

Finally, the best part was tasting them!! The children used words like “sweet”, “soft”, and “yummy” to describe them as well as enjoying spreading the butter on.

Lunar New Year

We have loved celebrating Lunar New Year. The children were fascinated to discover that this year is the Year of the Horse, and we explored how families around the world celebrate this special festival.

Dragons, Dancing and Dress

We watched videos of dragon dancing and loved the way the dancers moved together. The children also looked closely at traditional clothes, noticing the that they often wear the colour red!

Tasting New Foods

A highlight of the day was trying some traditional foods. The children were very excited to taste noodles, prawn crackers, and to finish with a fortune cookie. They enjoyed comparing the textures and talking about the different flavours and reading the special message inside the cookie.

It has been a fab day celebrating other cultures!
