Gingerbread Man Feast!

To finish our book The Gingerbread Man, the children decorated their very own yummy gingerbread men and what a treat it was! They have really loved the story, and ending it with real gingerbread made it even more magical.

With careful piping, colourful sprinkles and plenty of chocolate chips, the children created brilliant (and delicious!) gingerbread characters, just like the bakers in the tale. A sweet, sparkly, fun-filled way to celebrate the end our story!

Reindeer Riders in F2!!

Today’s balance bike session was full of festive fun as we transformed into speedy Christmas reindeers! With jingles in our imaginations and Christmas cheer in the air, the children hopped onto their bikes and got ready for a magical ride.

We set up a special festive course, with cones pretending to be Christmas trees, and the children zoomed, weaved and flew around them just like Santa’s team. There were giggles and lots of confident riding as our little reindeers dashed through the “forest.”

F2 SNOW DAY!

As soon as the children arrived at school today their faces lit up and everyone was buzzing with joy at the sight of the playground covered in white fluffy snow!!

We wrapped up warm and headed outside as quickly as we could. The children had the best time building snowmen, making snow angels, and enjoying friendly snowball fun with their friends. We talked about how the snow felt crunchy under our boots and how cold it was when we held it in our hands. We also noticed all of the autumn leaves slowly falling off the trees leaving bare branches!

After all that chilly play, we headed back inside to cosy up and warm ourselves with a lovely hot chocolate.

We had a mysterious visitor in F2!!

This week, F2 had a very exciting surprise waiting for us! We received a mysterious postcard but it didn’t say who it was from! The children were full of ideas and questions, so we decided to become detectives and go on a hunt around the classroom to search for clues.
Our first clue appeared in the home corner, where we spotted flour sprinkled everywhere and a baking tray with a strange outline. Who could have made such a mess? We followed a trail of tiny footprints across the classroom until we discovered a basket filled with curious objects such as a rolling pin, some ginger, a bag of flour, and (most excitingly of all) some delicious gingerbread biscuits!
The children quickly began to make predictions. Could it really be… The Gingerbread Man?
We kept searching until, at last, we found him hiding in the library, holding his very own storybook! The children were delighted. We all sat together and enjoyed reading The Gingerbread Man for the very first time and, of course, we couldn’t resist tasting a gingerbread biscuit while we listened!

HULL FAIR DAY!

What an exciting day we’ve had in EYFS celebrating Hull Fair Day! The children had a wonderful time exploring all the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes of the fair, all from our classroom and outdoor area.

We began the day by talking about our five senses and how we use them when visiting the fair. We discussed what we might see, hear, taste, smell, and touch on our visit — from bright lights and cheerful music to the delicious smell of fairground treats!

To start the fun, we enjoyed a special taste test of Hull Fair favourites — brandy snap and candy floss! The children had lots of fun describing the textures and flavours, using brilliant words like “crunchy,” “sweet,” and “sticky!”

Next, we got creative and painted our own colourful candy floss pictures, using pinks and pastels to recreate the yummy fairground treat. Outside, the excitement continued with classic fair games like Tin Can Alley and bowling pin knockdown, where the children practised their throwing and aiming skills while cheering each other on.

One of the highlights of the day was when the children made their very own chocolate-dipped apples just like the ones sold at the fair! They carefully dipped their apples into melted chocolate and added a few sprinkles on top. It was a wonderful opportunity to explore textures, smells, and tastes while talking about how the chocolate changed as it melted and cooled. The best part, of course, was getting to taste their delicious creations!

We even pretended to be on a roller coaster, using our imaginations (and a few dramatic sound effects!) to feel what it might be like zooming around the track, there were lots of giggles and “woah!” faces!

In the water tray, the children played Hook a Duck, showing brilliant turn-taking and teamwork. Inside, we set up a fairground sweet shop, where the children took turns being shopkeepers and customers, making sweetie bags and practising their money skills.

It truly was a fantastic day filled with laughter, learning, and lots of Hull Fair magic.

Bear Paw Biscuit Fun

This week, the children in F2 had a wonderful time bringing our story Goldilocks and the Three Bears to life through a fun and tasty activity!

We all got hands-on, carefully decorating our own bear paw biscuits. The ingredients we used were icing, chocolate chips and chocolate buttons to make our creations look just right! The classroom was full of smiles, creativity, and a little bit of mess (just how we like it!).

Of course, the best part was tasting our delicious bear paw biscuits at the end. What a yummy way to link our current story.

Autumn day!

Today was a truly special autumn celebration in F2! We’ve been getting up to all sorts of wonderful activities to explore the magic of the season. The children loved painting beautiful autumn trees and making colourful leaf shapes in rice.

Our visit to the forest school was a real highlight — everyone had such fun finding different autumn leaves and sticks to create their very own magic autumn wands! We sat together on the logs, enjoying the crisp autumn air and warming up with a cosy cup of hot chocolate as the days start to get chillier.

It was a day full of creativity, exploration, and smiles — the children had so much fun celebrating autumn! ✨

RE: Our wonderful world!

This week, Year 1 enjoyed a sunny RE lesson all about our wonderful world. We learned about the 7 natural wonders of the world and were amazed by their beauty.

Outside in the sunshine, we spotted the natural wonders around us—bright flowers, buzzing bees, tall trees, and blue skies. We talked about how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful world and how important it is to take care of it.

Then we created colourful posters with ways to help keep our world safe, like recycling, saving water, and protecting nature.

Science- Parts of the plant

This week in Year 1, we had a lovely time learning all about the different parts of a plant. The sun was shining, so we took our lesson outside to enjoy the beautiful weather!

We spent time observing real flowers and looking closely at their parts. We talked about the roots, which hold the plant in the ground, and the stem, which helps it stand tall and carry water. We spotted leaves that help the plant make food, colourful petals on the flowers to attract insects, and even tiny buds getting ready to bloom!

Then we created our own observational drawings, carefully labelling each part. It was a fantastic lesson and the children really impressed us with their careful drawings!
