Purple Pig Farm Visit

Thank you so much to Purple Pig Farm for teaching us how to handle and care for all the animals today.

This is such a treat for us to look forward to as we all love our animals.

We have such kind caring natures and hands!

Oliver’s ‘Hub’ Vegetables

It’s not just caterpillars and other minibeasts that we find at the bottom of the garden. We can grow lots of delicious food too.

Beautiful sitting, looking and listening skills demonstrated by our little treasures during our new story ‘Oliver’s Vegetables’ by Vivian French and Alison Bartlett.

We are all going to enjoy this book!

Tales Toolkit

We were able to discuss and sequence events of our story of ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ using Tales Toolkit.

Tales Toolkit is a framework for storytelling which is accessible for all our little treasures. The framework using clear symbols displaying character, setting, problem and solution allows us to be fully engaged in storytelling from start to finish. We used extra props and visuals to aide the sequence of events.

Our little treasures were able to identify that the caterpillar came first and the butterfly at the end. With support and help from their classroom environment they were able to count and sequence some of the food that the hungry caterpillar ate.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

We were able to, with a little support, count and copy the pattern of Mrs Nageri’s caterpillar, using miniature sponge printing. We are so clever!

We loved our sensory messy play using paper mache to create a cocoon for our caterpillar. We then painted it using a large grown up paintbrush with Mrs Robinson.

He is now tucked up all nice and cosy. Sshhhhhh!!!!!

Just like all our little treasures, our caterpillar has grown into a beautiful butterfly.

We love the way the sun catches our stained glass butterflies, shining brightly.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

On Monday he ate through one apple, but he was still hungry.

We enjoyed some apple printing to represent the food he ate on Monday.

On Tuesday he ate through two pears, but he was still hungry.

We enjoyed the sensory feel of the felt we used to make our pears, representing the food he ate on Tuesday.

On Wednesday he ate through three plums, but he was still hungry.

We enjoyed exploring our senses looking through the purple coloured cello to make our plums, representing the food he ate on Wednesday.

On Thursday he ate through four strawberries, but he was still hungry.

We used our glue to stick on some seeds we found outdoors to represent the seeds on our strawberries. This was the food he ate on Thursday.

On Friday he ate through five oranges, but he was still hungry.

We loved painting the bubble wrap to represent the texture of the oranges he ate on Friday.

On Saturday he had stomachache after eating through lots of yummy food. Can you see all the food he ate from our ‘Widgit’ visuals?

We used our scissor skills to cut out all the yummy food he ate on Saturday.

On Sunday the caterpillar ate though one nice green leaf. He felt much better!

We enjoyed fork painting to represent our nice green leaf.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Great excitement in The Hub for our new topic ‘What’s at the bottom of our garden?’

We looked at the life cycle of a butterfly through our story ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ by Eric Carle.

We demonstrated good sitting, looking and listening during our visual representation of the story. Good understanding was displayed, through eye gaze and pointing, to answer all our questions.

After some inspiration from our story, we explored our outdoor area for some very hungry caterpillars using our magnifying glass.

Can you imagine the excitement when some real live caterpillars arrived in our Hub for us to look after!

We immersed our classroom to make our caterpillars feel at home. We made a number line caterpillar, paper mache cocoon and symmetrical patterned butterflies.

King’s Coronation Celebrations

To celebrate the coronation of KIng Charles III on Saturday 6th May our little Hubbers made our very own crowns fit for a King!

A gold tablecloth was draped over our working table where we sat together to make our crowns. We knew it was a special occasion as all our new sequins and jewels were laid on the table for us to use. They dazzled us with their beauty of rich colours and sensory textures.

Everyone in the school wore red, white and blue clothes, the same colours as our national flag, to show our support for our amazing country. Our National Anthem played during our activity.

We also joined in with our school activities including a ‘Royal Bake Off‘ and ‘Royal Tombola’ with our families.

GOD SAVE THE KING!

Red Nose Day!

Mrs Robinson made some sensory bags for our tuff tray, to introduce the children to Red Nose Day!

We had so many giggles wearing our red noses.

Even the characters in our story had red noses!

Can you spot them?

We enhanced our fine motor skills by decorating and linking our paper chains.

Our paper chains will then be linked together with the whole school connecting us as one!

How wonderful!

For our Friday treat we decorated our biscuits with a red nose!

They were delicious! Mmmm yum yum!!!!!!!

This made us very happy!

Happy Red Nose Day!

We enjoyed fundraising for such a worthy cause!

We’re Going on a Bear Hunt!

We’re going on a bear hunt! We’re going to catch a big one! What a beautiful day!

We’re not scared, demonstrating our good looking and listening skills whilst watching our new story.

We absolutely love retelling all our stories through Tales Toolkit!

Mark making with paw prints, we completed our journey from start to finish using visuals to represent characters, a setting, a problem and a solution.

We creeped outdoors in search of bears using our own homemade binoculars.

Uh-Uh! We found grass. Long wavy grass.

Uh-Uh! We came across a river. A deep, cold river.

Uh-uh! We got stuck in the mud. Thick, oozy mud.

We made our own natural paintbrushes using sticks and grass creating our artwork using real mud.

Uh-uh! We stumbled across a forest. A big, dark forest.

Uh-uh! We had to go through a snowstorm. A swirling whirling snowstorm.

We arrived safely to school with our families through a real swirling, whirling snowstorm.

We had so much fun playing in real snow!

We made our own bears using a fork printing technique.

We’re still not scared!!!!!

After completing the features on our bears… we felt very scared!

We ran all the way back home through the swirling whirling snowstorm, the deep dark forest, the thick oozy mud, the deep cold river, the long wavy grass, stumbled up the stairs and hid under the covers.

We demonstrated good teamwork skills creating the bedspread using a variety of materials to simulate the one in our story.

Can you spot us hiding under the covers?

We’re never, ever, ever going on a bear hunt again!!!!!

Shrove Tuesday!

After learning all about Shrove Tuesday we measured, sieved, cracked, pored, mixed, cooked, tossed, spread then tasted our delicious pancakes.

Mmmmmmm yum yum!!!!!!!!
